Houston, Texas, May 10, 2014- On Wednesday the family of a man killed during a police shooting released video footage showing the final minutes of his life. The shooting occurred when Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office (FBCSO) deputies were responding to a 911 call on the evening of Nov. 4, 2013, at the home of Michael Blair.

Blair, who had been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, was threatening suicide and had locked himself in a bathroom. When deputies arrived they first knocked on the bathroom door, asked Blair how he was doing, if he was dressed and to come out and speak to the officers.

The officer then told Blair that if he didn’t open the door he would kick it in.

“Michael? You want to do this the easy way, don’t make us do it the hard way,” the officer could be heard saying on the video.

Another officer then picked the door lock and opened it slightly before yelling, “He’s got a knife” prior to Blair slamming the door closed.

During the confrontation Blair was struck numerous times with a stun gun, but refused officers commands to drop the knife. The final seconds of the video show Blair stumble towards the bathroom doorway as a deputy yells at him to stop, at which point the officer begins to fire his weapon repeatedly.

It remains unclear from the footage whether Blair was coming at the officers intentionally or tripped on the bathtub wall.

The video shows that the deputy fired his weapon 11 times, continuing to shoot even after Blair had fallen to the ground. Inconsolable screams from family members can be heard in the background.

Quanell X a local community activist, along with several of Blair’s family members and others, held a press conference in Houston on Wednesday, May 7, where they gave the video to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson’s office, representing Texas’ Southern District.

The Blair family, prior to calling 911, had called a mental health hospital asking for assistance and was told by the facility to call 911. Speaking for the family, Quanell X said the family reluctantly did so.

“They didn’t want to call the police, because they were concerned that if the police came they would not handle the situation accordingly, and it would have a dreadful outcome,” said Quanell X, adding, “So they continued to call, and then they were told again, ‘call 911.’ The worst thing they ever did was call 911 to help their loved one who was suffering a mental health breakdown.”

Quannel X called the shooting “nothing less than a cold-blooded execution,” going on to state that, “This tape shows a cold-blooded killing of a young man who was in dire need of mental health therapy. The man needed a prescription, not a bullet. “

He said the tape was only now released to “expose” the officers seen in the video. He went on to state that the family will be pursuing a civil suit over Blair’s death.

He also said the family wants the FBI to undertake a full investigation, as well as the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Kimberly Blair Olaniyai, the mother of Blair, said she wants people to know that she has forgiven the officer that shot her son.

“We want him to live a long life, so he will always remember my son and how he murdered him in that bathroom that day. My son did not deserve 11 shots to his head, and we have to find out from the media how many times he was shot in that bathroom. Even though we heard the shots ring out, we didn’t know. All that we’re asking is that someone recognizes what we recognize. That was brutality at its finest in that bathroom that day,” said Olaniyi

FBCSO spokesman Bob Haenel said the Sheriff’s Office couldn’t comment on the Internal Affairs investigation, or the shooting video, as the FBCSO hadn’t received a copy.

At the time of the shooting the FBCSO was in the process of creating a crisis intervention team and training its deputies on how to deal with mental health problems. Haenel said the 10-member team is now operational.

  • Reality Check

Well, there you have it, black man, white man, black female, you get 11 shots in the head or an unreasonable, facsimile thereof.

White female, well you know, you get a bruised tit.

A white female in Florida stood toe to toe with a cop pointing a 38 caliber pistol right at the cop’s head and he didn’t shoot her, but that sick pig tried to sue the cop for excessive force. He saved her life and she tried to get him put in prison.

I’m surprised you racist and sexist pigs at Ben Swann decided to post this.

  • Jacob Walls

This was completely justified…no way the family wins a civil case. Don’t blame the cops for acting like cops, blame the family for letting ga situation get to the point where they need to call cops.

    • Reality Check

You are a sick piece of human garbage. You should be shot 11 times in the head just for saying something like that.

  • POPTARTS

option number 2 turn around and walk out the door without any shots fired.

    • Reality Check

The cop is clearly a psychopath who does everything he can to escalate the situation. He is in the bathroom claiming that he wants to help as he repeatedly tazers the guy over and over again until he is screaming at the others cops for a new tazer.

This situation could have been handled without a shot being fired, but the cop was not going to let that happen. He saw an opportunity to murder an innocent black man and he wasn’t going to let that escape him.

The cop needs to face murder charges and anyone who doesn’t understand that is insane.

      • tdthr3e

So you’re ok with a guy coming at your with a knife? The taser is a de-escalation device, he wasn’t escalating it. If the idiot had dropped the knife the situation would have been over. Why do the cops always get blamed when they were just following protocol?

        • NONWO

Shooting a guy 11 times in the head is protocol? Could have shot his legs or somewhere else to disable the guy instead of firing to kill.

        • Reality Check

          You are a nutcase.

  • Vance

Nothing will happen to the p::. They kill without consequence. Never call the cops they are not help.

    • Reality Check

You mean never call the cops unless you are a white female who wants to see her husband or boyfriend executed for a false accusation.

God knows you don’t lay a finger on a white female and the Cops know it too.

  • tdthr3e

Cop was justified. Taser no longer worked, he came at him with a deadly weapon in his hand. Unfortunate, but justified.

    • Firebird7478

Yeah, a knife…I guess you shouldn’t throw stones at a man holding a machine gun.

  • Brimstone Hill

If it had been a Bear, Lion or some other wild animal a simple tranquilizer dart would have been used, but because it’s a mentally ill human, the pigs must use lead and brute force to control the situation. So sick of this Sh^t………

    • Cliff Wilson

Tranquilizers don’t work unless you’ve compensated for weight and other factors, use too little it does nothing use too much and it kills … research what you say before you open your mouth please.

      • xiknight

It’s called a bean-bag gun to the jaw. Who cares if you knock out a few teeth, you’re still ALIVE. Don’t pass the blame off.

        • jlnb80

He was Tasered THREE times! That is the police version of a tranquilizer, and it didn’t work. It was tried, it didn’t work, you have to move up the scale to protect yourself and the civilians around you.

      • Netizen

MIGHT kill him? rather then certainly with 11 shots? you speak of researching concepts, well here is one for you: might kill is FAR better then certainly kill unless your intention IS to kill..

        • Cliff Wilson

Cops are trained to kill, that’s just the fact of the matter. As sad as it is there was really nothing else that cop could have done.

  • oldrolledgold

Don’t know what more the policeman could have done.I think Swann is controlled opposition

    • TrollsSuck

First of all Ben doesn’t write every single story that comes out. Second of all 11 shots to the head is asinine and anyone trying to justify that is quite a moron. third the article isn’t even biased, it’s just pointing out what happened and what the family had to say about it. Controlled opposition? Go back to your basement you troll.

  • Michael Richardson

Tasers him 3 times which only angers him. Then shoots him 11 times in the head. Then he orders the family out of their own home. What is up with all the shoot first cops?

  • Cliff Wilson

That’s what happens when you rush a cop with a Knife Ben, He made the choice to go home to his family and while there are cases of cops who do horrible things this isn’t one of them.

    • Jared Michael Bergeron

It sounded like 11 shots and he was falling down prior to him shooting. Were you watching the video? At what point do you lose control of the situation and just use deadly force.

  • Lesa Cater

This is wrong on so many levels.

  • Carol Kelley

Don’t blame these officers, blame our mental health treatment in this era – the man belonged in a hospital. This is happening all over the country.

    • Charles Vella

The officer could have apprehended the man and gotten him the help he needed. Instead he escalated the situation like a child with aspergers and killed a man who simply needed to be calmed down. The officer needs to be brought up on murder charges as a civilian. He shot the man ELEVEN TIMES instead of helping him. He did this because he was scared of a knife. Get real. I’m sick of reading these comments.

      • Carol Kelley

Try getting help for a mentally I’ll relative Bud, and you will find out there is none and police cannot access status of a person in the ten seconds it takes to shoot …. play me the scene as YOU think should have been handled…..

  • Eric Meyer

This was terrible for everyone involved. The COP’s did not do anything wrong in my opinion. If the mentally ill person would have gotten out of the bathroom and stabbed someone else, most people would be persecuting the COP’s for not restraining him quick enough. You never know what a mentally ill person can do.

    • Charles Vella

The cop was totally to blame. He should not have opened the door and shot the victim 11 times. How can you support incompetence when it results in the death of an innocent man? What is wrong with people?

      • Eric Meyer

Lets be honest here! Watch the video again and put your self in the COP’s shoes. What would you have done? He wanted to go home at the end of his shift and clearly was upset that he had a fraction of a second to make the decision to protect his own life and everyone else’s when the unstable man charged at him. Bottom line, the mental patient should have been contained in a controlled atmosphere such as a mental ward if he is this unstable. Its a terrible situation no matter how you look at it, and I normally don’t care to much for modern law enforcement but I am on the COP’s side this time

  • xiknight

I like how people aren’t blaming the cop. 11 shots? Even after he fell? What a puke. Disgusting police force, and it’s happening all over the country. Don’t wait til they kill your family members to make a stand.

  • glenn

you can’t blame anyone here . It was a situation that was handled poorly. First the officers approach to a mentally ill man was to abrupt. The man was already agitated and the officer yelling that way was only adding to the fire. They could have let the mentally ill man chill out a
bit and remove everyone from the home. They should have had someone else in charge and remove this officer from this situation as the officer was way to agitated already. The officer at a time seemed sincere to help this man. When the officer did shoot , it seemed t
he could have shot him in the shoulder or leg insted of firing so many rounds at once at his main organs, and yes i do realize i was not there and in this situation and was not the one who needed to act in this situation. The police department should assess the procedures followed in this tragic ending and see what could have been done to prevent such a wild scene from taking place again. To the officer and the family, no one is to blame here and i hope the family can find forgiveness in their hearts to forgive this police officer as it was not his fault. He was poorly trained to handle such mentally challenged situations and this should have been left to someone better trained in this situation. To look at the mental health facility that the family said they called, shame on all of for not taking pride in your occupation when one of our own citizens needed help. No excuses to be accepted even though you will have many justifications. I hope you lay awake each night and kick yourselves in the ass many times.

    • Charles Vella

The officer is clearly to blame, but thanks for the novel.

  • yworld360

After the first shot he was down. Regardless if the man with mental problems was chargeding him with the knife or not he was down after the first shot smh. The first shot or 2 is debate able but the other 9 or 10 is clearly excessive force. Although theres no way the cop can get in trouble for this video with the way society is today.

    • TXFireChick

Agreed – totally excessive and unnecessary!

  • Concerned Anon Netizen

I wonder how that officer would have reacted if someone broke into his home and pointed a firearm @ him when he was already upset, then tased him several times… prob woulda pissed him off too… then when pig reacted only way he was ‘trained’ to do, by becoming aggressive, was shot in the head, not once but until mag was empty. I have been tased before and you lose most motor skills and triggers your fight or flight response. there was no way to flee or fight so the guy was simply trying to get out of the painful situation. cop was in ZERO danger. man obviously was. This kind of police action and training is one of the many reasons the government is attempting to disarm citizens. Things would have been much different if the man was armed with a firearm of equal or greater power since the cop would have had to think carefully before firing. Point being the cop was in no real danger and had superior tactile advantage. There were many possible solutions to this event and the cop clearly chose legal murder, as he had been ‘trained’ as acceptable. Murder is WRONG, a LAST resort, not a convenient option.

    • Zombie72

f he had kicked the door in and the man was armed with a firearm there would have been NO thinking he would have fired immediately to eliminate the threat.

      • Concerned Anon Netizen

exactly. no thinking. ever hear of right to bear arms? in own home? so 2 options @ that point. 1: illegally and unconstitutionally murder the man instantly with no attempt to diffuse situation (which is what you seem to advocate) or 2: pause to consider the possible outcomes of opening fire resulting in a more diffused situation. ever consider there were other people in the home and the cops posed a real threat to not only the suspect but the entire family. 9mm can easily penetrate most walls and floors. 11 shots results high risk for anyone in the home. im getting tired of people thinking that these situations are somehow justified. the real insane person here was the cop thinking he was doing the right thing and the government who trained him to think that way.

  • wyatt1902 .

Poorly handled by the cop. No need to kick in the door when he did. Just let the guy settle down. When a life is at stake there’s no need to act like you have to finish this now in order to be first in line at the donut store.

    • Charles Vella

      Amen.

  • LogicBob

I’m sick of these damn pop ups Ben Swann! You are better than this!!

  • Frank_in_Spokane

One major quibble: I SERIOUSLY doubt that, of the 11 shots fired, all of them were “to the head.”

  • Jose Pajon

I am the first to call out cops behaving badly, but they shouldn’t have called the Police unless they were ready for this outcome. I cannot blame this officer. I honestly don’t think he wanted to shoot this guy. I think the guy stumbled on the tub, but from an officer who has his wife and kids waiting for him… he cannot take that chance and the proximity was such that he couldn’t retreat. It is an unfortunate situation, but this was not poorly handled. If the family called the Police they must have feared for their own safety… why wouldn’t the Police fear for their safety as well.

    • Charles Vella

“I have a family at home, and I might get cut by a knife. I must shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot!!! Is he dead yet?” ffs

  • Zombie72

I watched the video several times. I don’t believe this will be found as anything other than a justified shooting. First Anyone who has had training in using a gun for self defense. Knows that you shoot until the threat is eliminate or incapacitated. It is a huge gray area is 1 shot or 17 enough or is 2 or 11 to many. Second anyone who has been hunting can tell you about how the adrenaline dump in your system affects you. Now you multiply times 10 or 1000 if you think that your life is in jeopardy. Basic instinct takes over fight or flight and you do what you have to to eliminate that threat. The fact that the family not a medical examiner said he was shot in the head is a emotional exaggeration. There is NO WAY that officer was able to place 11precise shots where they said. You have he recoil of the weapon, and moving target that even at close range that which makes that virtually impossible. Do I believe that police abuse their power and get free passes or lesser charges and penalties because of the badge. Hell Yeah, I think there are many cops who should be in prison instead of a uniform. Lastly to the trolls who make everything a BLACK VS WHITE issue or vice a versa. The outcome would have been the same if any color of man came at a cop with a weapon black, white or brown. Does racism happen in society? YES. As long as you keep believing that everything is a race issue the establishment has won. They can keep us little people squabbling amongst ourselves and distracted. They can get away with whatever they want while we fight amongst ourselves.

    • Charles Vella

This could have easily happened to you, and then your song would make more sense. You would be devastated, wondering why the police intentionally escalated the situation unintelligently and unprofessionally. They should never have opened the door without spending as much time as it took to talk the man down. The gun should not have been drawn until all other options had been exhausted. Your justification of this man’s gang-style execution is frightening. We will never be able to begin changing the way we hold police accountable for their incompetence as long as people support the police intentionally killing innocent people. Thanks for being part of the problem. Watch it again and cheer for death.

  • Les Geames

Now you know the meaning of “overkill” This didn’t have to end this way.. But most cops are trigger happy

  • Anita Tippets

Surely they have non lethal ammunition… they couldn’t have gone into this with rubber bullets? All they needed to do was diffuse the situation. Who the hell thinks screaming at a paranoid schizo is a good idea?

    • t socrates

      GOOGLE: “Police IQ”

      • TXFireChick

Yup – I think they like their average IQ to be right around 90! lol

        • t socrates

Exactly 10% LOWER than the average IQ.

    • Charles Vella

The police are typically unintelligent bullies. There was no human thought involved in their action. Mindless people are not capable of rational thought. Today’s police departments openly hire violent idiots. Gotta end.

  • milw0rm

In my opinion this was justified. The officer repeatedly gave the guy a chance to drop the knife which he didn’t do, he repeatedly tried to calm did down. He may have had mental health issues but if someone is coming at you with a knife, which he appeared to be at the end, the officer had every right to defend himself. This was a very sad outcome, but not totaly unexpected.

    • Justin Sage

He was not in a state of mind to comply.

      • TXFireChick

Especially just having had the crap tased out of him. I am guessing it leaves a person confused.

    • t socrates

      You will face similar crisis.
      Cops will be called.
      Good luck.

    • t socrates

      …PS: “DEFEND HIMSELF”
      are you FU@%ING JOKING ???

    • Charles Vella

Wrong. The man was murdered because the police were too pussified to try getting the knife away. If this was justified, then the police can shoot anyone at anytime and simply claim they felt threatened. Try watching it again with no prejudice toward the police, which you have.

  • ian pala

OMG HE HAS A KNIFE HE’LL KILL US ALL!!! The cops have pepper spray, batons, tasers, and hands. The problem is that they’re so quick to use lethal force now. If you tase the shit out of someone and are too timid to try to disarm them in any other way besides shooting them, you have no business being a cop. That whole “they put their selves in danger” argument no longer applies if they don’t take risks for the people they are supposed to serve. They don’t put their selves in danger anymore, they put themselves on the delivering end of an execution if you dont do anything but comply.

    • TXFireChick

That pretty much is right on. They had other tools but most cops lack enough common sense to utilize them. Instead, they are trigger happy and kill regardless the circumstance. If the dude pointed a gun or had a gun in his hand, sure, it would be justified – but we are talking about a knife!

  • Rodrigo

One shot was enough, in the leg. That´s it. Poorly handled situation.

    • Xnelms

While I loathe cops and think they were completely wrong in handling this situation, the “just shoot them in the leg” argument fails on every level. I’ll leave you to work out why

      • Charles Vella

If the gun had not been in the man’s hand and unlocked, these two bozos could have wrestled the knife away and gotten the man into protective custody. He wanted to kill the poor bastard and did.

  • Justin Sage

Too many cops like to kill.

  • Justaguy

Ok,I was on bard with the cops this time, because the guy had a knife…..until that last part. The guy was clearly lying In the tub, when the cop called for the taser, seemingly trying to start drama that wasn’t there.mwhen they tasted him, the guy stood up and fell out if the tub.mthemcop took that as an aggressive move towards his person and fired 12 times. This cop,was clearly in the wrong here.

  • Paul J. Sweet

Where was a negotiation tactic? You can’t just start yelling and barking orders at a mentally disabled/hostile man and expect them to comply immediately, especially with threats of kicking in the door and creating more violence! There was nothing professional about this situation. Just some trigger happy cops quickly running through the motions for an opportunity to use deadly force! This could have and SHOULD have been handled differently. Police are scarier than most criminals these days… I hope these officers, especially the shooter, are punished with extreme prejudice! Its time we police the ‘police’.

  • http://www.salescopywriter.net/ Alan

I’m the first to blame cops. I don’t give them the benefit of the doubt. Here however the officer made a long, sustained effort to avoid shooting. When he did shoot however I saw no reason to empty the entire magazine into guy already on the floor. It also left him vulnerable if family members attacked.

    • t socrates

Assaulting an emotionally unstable person = IGNORANT ESCALATION.

May you have the police handle YOUR OWN family crisis one day.

“It was taking too long, so we just open fire…”

      GOOGLE: “Police IQ”

      • http://www.salescopywriter.net/ Alan

I generally agree but that doesn’t make me blind. This wasn’t a trigger happy cop trying to kill, this was someone who panicked, emptied his gun and left himself entirely vulnerable. To me this is a “You need a different job” scenario rather than “You’re charged with murder” scenario.

  • Jack

Under the law, this shoot was justified. Officers are only allowed to
discharge their firearms if there is an immediate threat of death or
harm to themselves or those around them. Whether or not this man tripped
or deliberately lunged towards the officers, that moment in time was an
immediate threat to the officers’ lives especially with a knife.

    And
lots of “shoot him in the legs” or “no need for 11 shots” kind of
people forget one thing. Once a firearm is discharged, it is discharged
to stop a threat. The firearm will continue to be discharged until the
threat is neutralized, period. No if’s, and’s, or’s, or but’s.

    Also,
lots of people are forgetting that in an enclosed CQB type area, a
person with a knife and an intent to hurt is a just as dangerous as the
the same type of person but with a firearm. In fact, the time it takes
for a man with a knife to lunge and stab at the officers will be a lot
shorter of a time it will take an officer to assess, register the
threat, depress the trigger, than fire off a round. And a majority of
the time, 1 round will not subdue a threat. There are numerous cases of
people taking over 10 rounds and continue to fight.

    There is
also a well-known video on liveleak showing a knife wielding man,
surrounded by officers in a open area. He was 20+ feet away from the
officers. He slashed one officer’s throat (died within seconds), stabbed
others, all the while officers were trying to shoot him. Don’t tell any
police officers “shoot him in the legs” or “11 shots is too many”. If
you have never witnessed a situation like that, you don’t know what you
are talking about. Try shooting a moving target, try shooting something that is bent on doing harm to you or others at a close range.

    • Reality Check

There was no immediate threat to anyone, he was locked in the bathroom and could have been talked out of this, if someone had taken the time. The cop was hell bent on murdering this man and you are insane if you don’t understand that.

There is no argument that can justify this shooting – period.

      You are insane.

      • Charles Vella

These people just don’t get it. If we let them get away with this and claim it was justified, they will shoot anyone that might hurt them. “I felt threatened so I shot him 11 times.” You were there to HELP the poor bastard and instead you shot him at the first sigh of trouble. FTP

  • bert

Tragic, but the family should not have listened to the advice to call the cops, no matter how bad the situation. They should have continued to follow their own gut instincts. Once the “authorities” are called in, you have then agreed to play by their rules. Right or wrong, their rules state that they shoot to kill a person who is an armed threat, and they do not consider the mental health of the individual. I am not “pro cop”, but in an enclosed area like a hallway and bathroom, if someone comes at a cop with a knife, the cop is left with little choice as directed by their “training.” Having said that, many cops could go against their training and simply retreat to avoid having to use deadly force. Once out in the open, someone can be subdued by many non-lethal means, and a knife is much less of a threat outside in the open.

    • Charles Vella

The gun should not have been drawn. These policeman are chickenshits, afraid of getting a scratch. These are the same people who will charge you for assault if you defend yourself against them because they have pretty-princess skin. Dumbasses.

  • Joey

All of you saying the cop was in the wrong has just show how ignorant you are. Have any of you even taken a simple criminal justice course? They’re trained to shoot to kill. Case after case in which officers tried to just “shoot them in the leg” has ended with the officer and/or others getting hurt. Not to mention that the probability for being able to shoot someone in the leg, is incredibly low. Not Especially if it’s a moving target. Officer did nothing out of what training taught him.

Been Swann readers are beginning to slowly lose their intelligence. How unfortunate.

    • Xnelms

You are correct in stating that youalways aim to kill. This wasn’t an incident where they needed to shoot period. They did everything wrong outside of how to properly take out a criminal assailant.

    • Andrew Nieto

So your saying it’s ok for terrorists to kill innocent people because “that’s what they’re trained to do”

    • t socrates

You are grossly incorrect on many points.

None more so, than claiming that officers are trained to fire 11 shots at a time, per suspect. Bursts of 3 are “training”. You sir, may not like what you are hearing here, but that’s no reason to make FALSE claims.

      Good day.

    • Charles Vella

The officer was totally in the wrong, and your assertion that he wasn’t is absurd. His gun did not need to be drawn unless the man had a gun himself. The policeman was afraid of getting hurt. Did he get cut? Was the man homicidal and loose on the street threatening the public safety? No. He had locked himself into the privacy of his own bathroom. They invaded that privacy with no attempt to wait it out. Is it possible they were in a hurry to get some lunch? They do look like overfed piggies..

    • Guy Daley

I read your first sentence and stopped. You are a cop apologist and/or have a conflict of interest. You will condone whatever illegal activity police conduct. I just wish my thumbs done could be more effective.

  • t socrates

These cops did just about EVERYTHING WRONG when dealing with an Emotionally Disturbed person. NO PROPER entry/communication for this particular situation. They did more to hurt than to help.

They clearly did NOT have the proper training for this type of situation. They treated him like a corner store robbery thug; and how dare he disobey their obvious ‘authority’. This man needed help; not aggression. The cops entered with little boy EGO & left with blood on their hands.

You cannot TRAP & THREATEN an already Emotionally Disturbed person; BARK ORDERS; bang aggressively on their small & confined quarters & expect to peacefully resolve such a situation.

This is TEXTBOOK what NOT TO DO.

In fairness – they may have meant well.
That doesn’t change that what they did was WRONG.

    • Reality Check

You’re right to a certain extent, but I have to believe that this cop knew what he was doing was wrong, and he did it anyway, which makes him a criminal.

He willingly and knowingly escalated this situation and probably wanted to execute this man for no good reason.

He is not incompetent, he is an accomplished murderer.

Check his record, I would bet the farm that he has killed before and he likes it.

      • t socrates

If I were you – or any responsible citizen – I would check that record for myself, before making such public speculation.

Brutes & thugs are not always conscious of their thuggery.

I do believe this man did not have the training required – and that he also has PLENTY of bad training. I cannot say that his intention was to accomplish the murder. I do believe he thought he was doing right. That’s not enough, however. Most murderers, tyrants, thugs, killers and other wrong-doers believe they are right.

This bad cops actions, reflect a bad police force. That bad police force, reflects a larger society with no understanding of each other; complex issues of the heart & mind, particularly. In any event, these cops were NOT properly trained. They should have known that.

They should NOT have done what they did. This man may still be alive, had a social worker been called to scene instead of the armed forces of local ignorance.

        • Reality Check

I don’t care what you believe, dipshit. I didn’t read the whole comment because you are obviously full of chit.
          Now go play with yourself.

          • t socrates

            You’ve been flagged, “dipshit”.

You are an angry little boy.

Keep proving it, publicly, if you like.

    • Charles Vella

I agree with everything you say except one thing. I do not believe they meant well, or they would have tried talking to this man for HOURS if they needed to. I believe they were frightened and concerned more about their own skin than about helping the family. The lesson is clear, when you call the police you are putting your life at risk.

      • t socrates

        That’s a pretty fair analysis.

  • Joshua Spearin

Maybe the guy could have lived if that fat cop hadn’t fired 10 rounds into him at close range. I don’t care what you’re trained to do, you don’t need to unload your clip on a man while he’s still on the ground. The fact that they are trained to do that is not a good thing. The fact that the justice system sides with that is not a good thing.

  • TXFireChick

The shooting seemed unacceptable!!! All it took was one or two shots in the leg. It was not like the dude had a gun – it was just a freaking knife!! Once shot in the leg, he would have been busy tending to that pain and dropped the knife anyways! How many shots did it take to kill an innocent man?? It sounded like 6 or 8 to me – this is simply not right. I personally have lost all confidence in the police and would not call them. I don’t want my dogs shot or have my daughter handcuffed. Common sense seems to be at a complete lack nowadays in law enforcement.

  • GodSaveUsAll

HE SHOT TO KILL. We are taught when taking BASIC firearms classes (I’m not a police officer, please don’t associate myself with that lot), that when DEFENDING YOURSELF you only shoot until the threat is subdued. You don’t shoot the guy until you empty your clip because that shows full intend to kill. This officer should be tried for murder.

Cops like this will one day find themselves in the crosshairs of Karma. We are not nearly as far from a revolution against corrupt government and police brutality (and just plain unprofessionalism) as you might think…

  • Constitutional Carrie

I won’t ever call the police, l learned that years ago.

    • Real Deal

I know what you mean, and if you have any reason to suspect that they might be on their way, for any reason, you would be wise to get the hell out of there.

  • Poetic Justice

    Thanks for posting this Jay.

Are you from Winona, or are you just living there? It’s a very nice town and I’ve been there many times. I used to fish up the river by Lake City (Home of waterskiing) and enjoyed watching the many bald eagles that make that part of the river their home.

Do me a favor if you know how. Check this cop’s record to see how many other people he has murdered.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Charles Vella

The police are not trained to empty their clips at a man in mental distress. This officer was so afraid of getting cut by a knife that he continued to shoot his gun after the man had fallen. Whatever happened to crisis prevention by the police? Again, the presence of American law enforcement turned a situation that could have been handled with diplomacy and compassion into a man being shot to death for no reason. This officer needs to be fired and tried as a civilian for murder. Will it happen? No. Why? Because we have yet to take control back from the police in our cities. They work for us, not for themselves.

  • RWH

Do not worry, he was able to get the handcuffs on!!!

  • 24 60 69

As one sided as I am on this entire issue, I believe these police are being lumped into an already bad problem. Shooting someone 12 times is excessive. It would be a perfect world if no one ever died or got in trouble. This man did run at them. I can clearly see that from the tape. Cold hard truth is not every situation can be pretty….this is clearly an instance of police doing their job. I can’t understand how we let the police do the things they do anymore. They are the real enemies—our government the terrorists. WHEN WE AMERICA’S PEOPLE STAND UP FOR SOMETHING

    • Real Deal

      You are a nutcase.
What you didn’t see is the cop using a tazer on the guy until it wouldn’t work anymore.
You are a real nutcase if you think this is what a cop’s job is.
I pray you get twelve in the head, unlike this man, you deserve it.

      • Keith

First off, he used the tazer on him because he had a knife, he kept using it on him because everytime they let up, he didn’t make any attempt to drop the knife. Second, praying someone get killed because of an opinion is far worse than than a cop who has to shoot a man.

        • Guy Daley

No it isn’t you idiot. The cops actually murdered somebody. Praying is the same thing as hoping and never results in death except by mere coincidence. Does reality ever factor into your sense logic or lack thereof?

Let me demonstrate moron. You are a stupidhead, incapable of clear thinking, therefore I pray that you die. Now, idiot, are you dead yet? No, so I will stoop to the grade school level where you dwell and never graduated from. Repeat after me, sticks and stones may break my bones……..

BOTTOM LINE NEVER, NEVER , NEVER CALL THE POLICE

  • Rosanne Young

It seems apparent that others who posted are not informed as to what Paranoid Schizophrenia really is..this man was not in reality..paranoia causes the man to hear voices..he was brutally murdered for an incurable mental illness, and yes, Schizophrenics attempt suicide in 85% of the cases. I would definitely report this to the American’s with Disabilities office and the Department of Justice..Violating (murder) is a Federal Offense handled by Judges from the DOJ..MURDERER!!!

    • Guy Daley

OH BULL****. NEVER< NEVER EVER take the word of the media. This I learned EONS ago. Take all media stories especially the information passed to media by the government. For this YOU FAIL. You get an F for your opinion. Too many people fake this, that and the other in order to qualify for social security.

And no, not everybody that commits or wants to commit suicide is suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. We have NO IDEA what his reasons were for contemplating such. STOP making diagnoses and judgements from media information and now I have to call you an idiot for doing so. You fit the bill.

In any case, cops show up and if you do not respect their authority, then they feel they have the right to KILL you. This has been demonstrated countless times in the last decade. If the drip with the knife wanted to commit suicide and didn't quite have the nerve to do it himself, you need only call the police and they will oblige. BTW, assisted suicide is ILLEGAL which is why Kervorkian went to jail for a few years and the cops should ALSO go to jail – AUTOMATICALLY. Assisted suicide ILLEGAL unless of course we have two sets of laws.

    • Think with a brain.

why was it recorded? how many times did the cop beg the man to put it down? how many times did he say he didn’t want to do it? he had a full grown man who wasn’t mentally there charge him with a knife. I’d have put two clips into him before I let a incapable thinking man stab me with a knife. Go to hell bitch

  • Rosanne Young

ALSO..I AGREE..NEVER, NEVER, NEVER CALL THE POLICE…NEVER TALK TO THE POLICE..THEY ARE MORE DANGEROUS THAN SERIAL KILLERS…STAY AWAY..IT WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE!!!!

  • Poetic Justice

    Check this cop’s record.
I guarantee you he is a murderer and that most, if not all, of his victims are black.

  • Elaine Kelly

Once again this is outrageous .. that man was in the tub…. he was not threatening anyone… they had NO right to shoot and kill him… this is a very sad video.. My condolences to these parents.. that Cop was Clearly the aggressor .

    • Just Sayen

      It’s called murder.

      • Elaine Kelly

Yes I agree….. they should be properly trained on how to approach such things. That man was not looking for them.. he was in his own house in the tub… obviously in distress. They should have diffused the situation … not exacerbate and escalate …

        • wow

Its people like all of you that cant see what the truth of the matter and make this world one messed up libaral mess that cop told him over and over oh and did i say over to put the knife down then he tazed which is the correct step to take for disarming him them guy did not listen got pissed and ran at the cops he could of had the knife in his hand door was not all the way open yes he pulled the trigger to many times but really this dude came at him self defense all the way

          • John Pacheco

lmfao..ran at the cop? he fell out of the tub…get your eyes checked.

          • NatesMama1128

The man was schizophrenic. Clearly you don’t know what that means, but that man had no idea what those cops were asking of him and they had no business even handling the situation. No decent, well-trained police officer would have to unload a clip into an obviously distressed individual in their own home, and then continue to fire into him as he lay on the floor.

Thank God *you’re* not in charge.

  • Michael Smith

As odd as it was to me, I actually was on the side of the cop up until the moment he needlessly murdered the man. He didn’t need to shoot him that many times, for one. Once or twice would have been sufficient. He should have had a clear, and predetermined escape route from that hallway before things escalated to where they did. If he had, he would have used it to back away from the “imminent danger” after shooting the man a couple times. For him to empty his clip into the guy while he was on the floor is a sure sign of panic or just outright murder. Either way this easily panicked officer has no business being in his position and demonstrated zero courage when dealing with this situation. YES, I do know. I have a psychotic older brother that I used to have to subdue from time to time to keep him from terrorizing my parents. He’d have knives, broken bottles, you name it, that he’d come after me with or threaten my dad with. Since I wasn’t there to enforce my unwavering and absolute authority, like this cop, I never found any need to kill him. A little bit of critical thinking regarding the EXACT situation I was dealing with allowed me to handle the situation every time with a short ass whoopin. I never had to leave him in critical condition in the hospital, although there were a number of times I wanted to, and it was actually caring about the outcome that prevented me from doing so. I knew I couldn’t just walk away from the situation with zero regard for the damage I might cause. That caring about how things ended up made all the difference in the world and absolutely affected what I did. This cops reaction was that of someone who inherently believes there would be no repercussions whatsoever for what he did, so he did the “macho” thing instead of the helpful thing, because he knew nothing would happen to him after the fact.

    • Michael Fairchild

You should have put your brother in the hospital, might have taught him a lesson.

  • Lynn Torres

We are so used to watching TV and seeing police talk people out of situations that we are not in touch with reality…well does this wake people up??? When are people going to understand that the cops are creating a huge problem and one of these days they are going to create an even bigger problem when people revolt against them. Police think they are above the law!!! I see it everyday on the streets where I live. Illegal searches of people and cars. More and more we are loosing our rights and freedom in America! I feel sorry for the family of this mentally ill man. Now they have to live with knowing they made the call that ended their family member’s life. The cop…he won’t care that he ended a life…he will go on like nothing happened because we live in a society where the police are not help accountable for their actions!!!

    • Aaron Ingebrigtsen

I agree, people need to wake up, the police are becoming a Threat to society, not the protectors.

    • Oath Keeper

I worked in the prison system for 15 years and we took knives away from bigger and more disturbed individuals than this one 100′s of times and we never used any weapons other than verbal communications and quick brute force. Rarely did anyone get hurt except for maybe a black eye or scrapes. The training to do this is taught in most law enforcement academies basic training. So there is no reason to kill in this situation. I repeat NO JUSTIFICATION for the use of deadly force only a COWARDLY KILLER COP. (POS)

      • Real Deal

That’s why I think this coward is probably a serial killer.

    • uber

I find it hard to believe that the 3 cops seen in this video could not have taken that knife away from him. He was down in that bathtub for awhile…..what were they waiting for? This is so sad, damn.

  • Cyn

That is so sad and painful to watch. The man is mentally ill and suicidal! He didn’t want to hurt anyone, he had been tazed over and over. I think the whole way that they came in, with the screaming and shouting, made him more afraid and want to hurt himself more. You can see the blood on his shirt. I think he was slashing his jugular vein and that is why the cop was saying “No, No, don’t do it.” They tazed him several times and the spasms caused, possibly wouldn’t allow him to drop the knife. Why did they have to taze him so many times. He was in the bathtub and clearly not a threat. Killing a mentally ill person, who is suicidal is wrong. They could have talked him out of the bathroom. They could have told him that his family was frantic, had called the police and that hurting himself would not help him or his family. What happened to human kindness and compassion for another human being in pain? What is happening to our society that this is happening more and more?

  • tommycannabis

yeah i was shocked not cuz he shot him but becuz he kept shooting him after a few shots were enough when i seen it and now i read this so yeah definitly an abuse

    • Emily

I’m not sure…. but considering how quickly and evenly spaced those shots were fired…. I’m thinking the cop had some sort of semi-automatic gun. I could certainly be wrong, but it seemed like he just panicked and over-squeezed. I’m NOT saying this was handled perfectly by any means. There were a lot of other ways they could have dealt with the guy. But I didn’t come away with the impression that this cop wanted to shoot anybody, and he obviously was very upset over having done so. This is a sad situation for the victim and his family, and the cop and his family as well. I pray they all find peace over this situation.

  • Jeff Dyer

The guy was threating suicide. He was not threating anyone else. So the cops showed up and killed him. Instead of trying to save his life, they took his life. They escalated the situation. The victim repeatedly shut the door trying to get them to leave him alone. The cops should have called someone more experienced in to deal with the situation. All this took place in less than 5 minutes, which shows that acted way too fast. The could have had someone in a patted suit like the one you wear for training police dogs go in, they could have had someone with a police shield go in and pin him to the wall or in the tub, then disarm him. So many other options. Truly sad.

    • Michael Fairchild

They should have traded him his knife for an unloaded gun.

      • tommycannabis

        loooool

    • Guest

Hindsight is 20/20. If more time was available a lot of different options may have opened up, but under the extreme circumstances, things were going to escalate quickly. If the police had backed off, or worse, left, then this mentally ill man may have come out and killed the women and children that you hear in the background. Then everyone would be on their soapbox about how the police are never there when people need/want them. 11 shots may sound excessive, but once his life was endangered by a severely ill man lounging at him with a knife, adrenaline kicks in. You can say that you would have shot him in the leg, blah, blah, blah. But the fact remains, after doing his best to disarm a dangerously sick man, the situation became ‘him or me’. Once you pull the trigger with fear and adrenaline pumping, you continue pulling the trigger until your conscious mind kicks in and realizes that you are no longer in danger. As I said, hindsight is 20/20.

      • Chris

Hindsight? These are supposed to be trained officers. Trained to deal with high stress situation. This officer is obviously in the wrong. He will live with what he did for the rest of his life, but for the sake of everyone else in that community I hope he is no longer a police officer. This is the issue with our police force. There are a lot of great people who do the job, but some like this who can not deal with the pressure need to be weeded out.

  • jakobe

yeah 12 shots is excessive at point blank range

  • Reality Check

Hate to beat a dead horse people, but if that were a white female in that bathroom, the worst that would have happened to her is a bruised tit.

Black man, white man, black woman, you get 11 shots to the head.

And guess who has the power to stop all this police violence?

If you guessed white females, you guessed right.

  • james

He was tased multiple times, an given plenty of commands in plain english mental issue or not, he knew clearly what he was to do…. drop the damn knife. Then to charge the officer! The sad part of this story is what will happen to this officer and his family. It was obvious he cared, it was not the outcome he wanted. He and his family will pay dearly as they are raked through the coals. An for the family of the “victim” shame on you for letting it go this far, an double shame on you for blaming an officer you called to handle your problem. That does seem to be the American way these days to blame everyone else for your problems. Peace officers have a job like no other, they are expected to handle all your problems, even those you spent years creating. Then when they do address them in the only way they can, they are sued, fired, shamed, persecuted.

Gee I dunno, maybe us “white wimmen”, raised in the south just wanna go back to dem good ‘ol slave days.
Man, you’re an idiot and wouldn’t recognize sarcasm if it came up and bit you on the Ass.

          • Can You Dig It?

How old were you when you first took it up the ass?
            Now, go fuk yourself, racist.

          • FedUp

See this is an Obama supporter. Always trying to divide by race, by wealth. If you say something that is dangerous to the administration, discredit them immediately by calling them a racist. We see through your tactics, we know who you are, government infiltrator.

          • Dig This

Go blow it out your backside numbnuts, you have no credibility here.

          • FedUp

I’m not the one arguing with myself in the comment above, you may want to reassess your credibility…

          • FedUp

Accusing people of doing what you’re doing is hardly a way to gain credibility. You might want to try some prescription medication to help you with your dark, little secret.

You may end up like the guy in this video, unless of course, you are a white female. In that case, you will get your tits a little banged up.

            LOL!!!

          • FedUp

Oh dear, I’m terribly sorry, I didn’t realize you were “special”. You may want to tell the nurse that it’s time for your meds now.

  • Corey

They clearly tazed him which made him fall out of the tub. What a great pig to send to a suicide situation! I want that cop if I ever feel like jumping off a building.

  • NotUrBaby’sDaddy

As I said, hindsight is 20/20….

    • Who’s Your Daddy?

Go ahead, give yourself a thumbs up, oh I see you already did.
You are a nutcase and a danger to society, that’s the real deal.

      • Robinson

Has anyone ever tried to kill you before?

        • Who’s Your Daddy?

          Go fuk yourself nutcase.

          • CplUsmc

Apparently not. Believe me, you’d react the same way. I personally wouldn’t have fired more than 3-4 shots, but your evolutionary instincts kick in when someone is legit trying to kill you. Either that or you limp wrist it into a six foot deep hole.

          • Who’s Your Daddy?

No, nutcase, I would have left him in the bathroom where he wasn’t hurting anyone. I don’t care how long it took, there would have been a peaceful outcome if I was there.

This cop is a psychopath and so are you.

          • Robinson

Well once upon a time ago in a place far far away from America someone did try to kill me. I emptied the entire 28 rounds in my m16s magazine into him without thinking twice. Adrenalin and fight or flight reflexes sure make you do strange things in the face of death when you’ve never experience it before.

          • Who’s Your Daddy – MF?

The cop wasn’t facing death you sick fuk and I don’t care anything about a psychopath like you.

          • Robinson

Really? Someone charging you with a knife surely means you no harm? Get real.

          • CplUsmc

So, we should assume that suicidal people will give up and not hurt themselves or others? Just wait that out? Or, try to get him to respond positively to you and get him help… if he responds like a maniac while you’re doing that, then you have no choice.

          • Who’s Your Daddy?

He didn’t even try. He did everything in his power to escalate the situation so that he could execute the victim.

I would bet everything I own that he is a serial killer and there is no doubt in any sane person’s mind that you are a psychopath.

          • Fairly sane

You’ve done your ranting for the day, let it go and live in your imaginary world. I agree with others that think you’re a loud mouth opinionated moron. Get a vasectomy for the live of God

    • Naildriver_48

      ?……..yer full’a sh*t………

  • donna

all I can say is that was over Kill . The first shot I am sure killed him.

    • Reality Check

Did he deserve to die like that, you sick freak?
One shot was too many and sane people everywhere understand that.

      • CplUsmc

Anyone in an enclosed space lunging at a cop with a knife deserves what they get… even the mentally handicapped. The first shot and arguably one or two more were justified. Way too many shots were fired and for too long, but that doesn’t mean we can go back in time and say the cop should have just let him cut him up.

        • Reality Check

This country is full of nutcases like you, so I’m not surprised.

That’s why the Founding Fathers created a Republic and not a democracy.

They didn’t want nutcases like you having sway over sane and reasonable people.

          • CplUsmc

Who’s showing more signs of mental illness? The person who would defend their life or the limp wrist that would allow a psychotic stab them?

          • Reality Check

            You are mentally ill.

          • Robinson

You are literally too stupid to be allowed on the internet.

    • Robinson

Did it? did you see the first shot impact?

  • Paul Bledsoe

That was not self defense, that was murder. It is unclear if he was going after the cop or just fell. Even if he was going after the cop, the cop has a “plus 1″ reaction that he is allowed. That ended by the 2nd round fired. Continuing to fire on a man face down who was also prone, and further more emptying the gun is excessive force. At this point, that cop murdered that man!

    • Robinson

Were you able to see that he was face down? Are you also aware that bullets don’t instantly kill like you see in Hollywood? The officer said he needed another tazer, theres only about 4 5 seconds worth of tasing in a taser. After it wore off he charged the officer. Legal shooting.

  • Naildriver_48

    They should’a wait’d him out. he’s in a BATHROOM…..?……where’s he going?……..?……total un-necessary shoot.

    • Simple Simon

Basic reasoning skills are all you need to understand that, and anyone who doesn’t posses them, should be locked in a fuking cage until they grow a brain.

      • nemlive

Do not befall to acting like them, the friction of the negative polarity of Earth is not easy to deal with, try not to make it worse.

    • Wuz nt Me

Well… they (the parents) were trying to stop him from killing himself. I’m not sure wait-and-see was a suitable option. *And, for obvious reasons, calling law enforcement was a horrible option as well….

  • Robinson

Deadly force, is the force which a person uses, causing—or that a person knows, or should know, would create a substantial risk of causing death, serious bodily harm or injury. In most jurisdictions, the use of deadly force is justified only under conditions of extreme necessity as a last resort, when all lesser means have failed or cannot reasonably be employed. (IE TASER WAS EMPLOYED AND WAS INEFFECTIVE)
Firearms, bladed weapons, explosives, and vehicles (THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART YOU SHOULD READ) are among those weapons the use of which is considered deadly force. The use of non-weapons in an aggressive manner, such as a baseball bat or tire iron, may also be considered deadly force.
So by definition how exactly was that not an un justified shooting? You do know that bullets don’t magically kill people instantly like in Hollywood?

    • Deal With It

You are a danger to society. You should be locked away where you can’t pose a threat to others.

      • Robinson

        You are an ignorant dumbass

      • Robinson

Well that’s a well thought out and intelligent rebuttal.

        • Robinson

You will suc coc in hell for eternity.

          • Robinson

            I guess so

      • Robinson

You literally cannot formulate a valid argument to disprove the facts. Your thinking with your emotions.

        • Deal With That

Read the comments, jerk-off, if you can’t think for yourself.
This cop is a psychopath and so are you.

          • Robinson

There you go again, acting all emotional and throwing around insults instead of coming up with facts.

      • Robinson

I pray to god that no one reproduces with you, the thought of another functionally mentally delayed individual such as yourself on this planet bothers me.

    • Stephanie Ortiz

Crisis intervention training for police officers has been mandatory in Texas for so long I’m not sure how they managed to keep their TCLEOSE licenses in 2013 without it. It’s like them saying they hadn’t gotten the memo on racial profiling being a bad thing.

      • Robinson

How was this incident race related? So if the officer was of a different ethnicity it wouldn’t have been race related?

    • Robinson

He was verbally warned over 100 times to drop the knife, these officers really went to the limit before they used deadly force on him. You people are just all emotionally shook up after seeing someone killed. The battery on the taser ran out, when it did he was able to recover and charge at the officer.

      • http://wiseoldsnail.org/ wiseoldsnail

no, they didn’t go to the limit before using deadly force … they instigated, screaming at him, threatening him … all things one doesn’t do to someone having a mental breakdown . they should have stepped back out of the house and given him time to calm down . if he killed himself during this time, still better than being murdered by idiot police

    • Wuz nt Me

Agreed. This just should not have come down to calling in LEOs to solve the problem. I cannot say what should have been done but the parents knew what was likely going to happen and they were correct in that assumption.

  • Kelso

How is he supposed to drop the knife while he’s being tased?

    • Reality Check

The cop knew exactly how to play this so he could shoot the victim.
I would bet everything I own right now, no BS, that this cop has killed several times before and that most, if not all, of his victims are black.
What we probably have here is a racist serial killer.

      • jackdog

I bet you are right, damn white people killing all those blacks around the country….you should cut your balls off so you don’t accidently contaminate the world.

    • Robinson

The battery on the taser ran out and he charged the officer. Watch the video again, he clearly says he needs another taser.

  • Think About It.

Another aspect of this is that this young man was probably on one of the many psychotropic drugs that are claiming the lives of thousands of people across the country.

All of the “mass shooters” were government ops on meds and we are losing 22 military people every-single-day to these drugs.

The cop needs to get the death penalty and the pharmaceutical companies need to be put out of business permanently.

Make the price of these drugs so high with taxes that no one but british royalty will be able to afford them – killing the proverbial two birds, with a single stone.

  • nemlive

The Arcturians are watching over your son, no corrupted souls or Evil will befall him ever again

  • T3TR4W4R3

Those officers panicked and escalated an already intense situation by yelling at a mentally ill person. The officers not the victim are the cause of this.

    • Robinson

They were extremely calm to begin with. The crazy escalated the situation, so the officers did as well.

    • Linda Pruitt

I totally agree with you….these cops were pathetic. .incompetent..undeserving animals….,well not really even animals act better. My 16 year old grandson could have done a better job than they did in fact all of my grandkids could have handled the situation better, I know I could have that kid was crying out for love and attention and understanding, police officers are cold hearted, no empathy or compassion is even in their vocabulary they are like the Nephilim in Noah’s day

      • Robinson

What a dumb arrogant response. I BET IF SOMEONE CAME AT YOU WITH A KNIFE YOUR DUMBASS WOULD HAVE EMPTIED THE ENTIRE MAGAZINE INTO THEM because youre untrained an have no idea what youre talking about

        • Louie

I’d also bet that if armed men in an organization with a reputation for violence and unaccountability picks the lock of the bathroom you are in, then kicks it open while trying to gain entry, then kicks it in again when you attempt to reclose the door to keep the armed men out of the bathroom you are in, all the while yelling at you like a maniac, while they stun and tazer you repeatedly, just because they said it was there job to do so and they were there to help you, I’d bet that you’d wished you had more than a knife. Especially since, in the end they would shoot you dead.

      • jackdog

Linda having anal sex to keep sick people calm is not normal, you should go see a doctor.

    • jackdog

Next time you see someone who is mentally ill walk up to them and tell them you are taking them to a hospital and control the tone of your voice. OK slick, what a dumb ass some of you people are.

      • T3TR4W4R3

Considering the victim was not trying to harm anyone else at the point the knife was discovered closing the door and calling for back up was the right answer.

      • T3TR4W4R3

At the moment they spotted the knife all the officers had to do was close the door and guard it until back up arrived. Instead they chose to grab a taser and enter an enclosed space cornering the mentally ill individual. They proceeded to yell at him while inflicting excruciating pain. Only one of these individuals was the least qualified to react rationally in such a situation. The officers lost this battle when they panicked.

  • Wuz nt Me

When you HAVE TO shoot someone you don’t do it half-assed. Whether he shot him once or eleven times is not important. Whether right or wrong you can bet the deputy was scared and he fired until he was no longer scared. There was an armed, mentally ill individual moving towards him. Thankfully, I have never been in that situation and, unless you have been, you shouldn’t be judging his response.
It’s a shame that the hospital would not help them. The parents knew exactly what the cops would do and they were right. I am NOT saying that they got what they asked for or that he got what he deserved. We are all responsible for what “the system” has become. We stood by and allowed it to become what it is.
I can’t say what the right answer should have been but, calling law enforcement was probably the worst choice. It’s basically calling an executioner to stop a suicide.

    • Robinson

So you’re saying that the people at the hospital should have put their lives in danger instead of the police officers? He was warned over 100 times, the officers used a taser on him, when the battery ran out, the man recovered and charged the officer with a knife in his hand. Legal killing. Whos to say all of those shots hit the man? Ill tell you what, go run three miles then try to engage a target with a firearm, because that’s exactly how you feel when someone attempts to take your life.

      • Wuz nt Me

No, I didn’t say anything even remotely like that. Don’t be a troll.
I meant that a hospital should have had an option to help deal with the situation. Do you think mental hospitals call in armed forces when a patient gets dangerous?
I agree that it was a “legal shooting” and that bringing in armed officers to deal with this situation was the wrong choice.

        • Real Deal

          “Don’t be a troll”
          That’s what that scumbag is.
He needs about twelve rounds in the head.

          • Robinson

Twelve rounds of what? What are these rounds you speak of? Youre and ignorant dipshit. You cant even use the proper nomenclature to insult me.

          • jackdog

I agree with you, but he only got 11….LOL

        • http://wiseoldsnail.org/ wiseoldsnail

these days, they actually do … unfortunately

          • Wuz nt Me

I was not aware of that.

        • Robinson

Im not trolling anyone. Why would a mental hospital send out someone to respond to a barricaded person with a weapon?

          • Wuz nt Me

Because it seems reasonable to expect that they would have a better way of dealing with the situation than to walk in with a gun…
Ironically, they called in a gun to stop him from killing himself. There has to be, or there SHOULD be a better way to deal with that kind of situation.

          • Robinson

But it became something entirely else when he attempted to take the officers life. Don’t lie, every single person on here would have shot someone if they came at them with a knife in their hands, don’t try to say otherwise.

          • trent capaul

hey robinson, go die would u, either kill urself or call cops to do it for u, cos u smell really bad here. what a pathetic bitch u r.

          • jackdog

Did you notice that the officer didn’t pull his weapon out until he saw the knife? of course not, you liberal pig

        • jackdog

Troll? so why do you say “call in armed forces when a patient gets dangerous?” talk about trolling you jack ass

    • ugottabekiddingme

“you shouldn’t be judging his response.” You weak son of a B. If not me and you, who?

If you or I did this we WOULD be convicted and put in prison because we had the chance to get away. He had the opportunity to close that door the entire time. He chose not to and instead continued to try to reason with a mentally unstable person. I do judge him and sentence him to rot in hell for murdering this man.

      • Wuz nt Me

        Name calling. That’s mature…
You or I would have no obligation to confront the man in the first place. Law enforcement DOES. That’s what we ask them to do. Were they just supposed to say “Oh he has a knife. Sorry we’re out of here.”? No, you called the cops and that sets into motion a chain of events that will only end up in cuffs, or dead.
That’s why I say the law should not have been involved in the first place.
Also, your reading comprehension is a little lacking. I only said we should not judge how many shots were “necessary”. I guarantee that you DO NOT know what you would do in that situation.

        • ugottabekiddingme

Yes, I resort to name calling, too bad if you don’t like it. I do it because after trying my best to debate others I am usually left with the realization that it wasn’t worth my time and now just take a shortcut and call it like I see it. By the way, you proved me correct when you addressed the Christian ‘tone’ of what I wrote and nothing else.

      • Wuz nt Me

Also, you speak of “hell” which implies that you believe in a heaven and consequently, a god. What conveniently constructed view of god do you subscribe to that allows a place in heaven for someone that wishes hell upon another person?

If your faith includes belief in the christian bible then you should also be aware of Matthew 7:1 that says:
“Do not judge so that you will not be judged. “For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you.…
        and Luke 6:37
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.

        • ugottabekiddingme

F your bible quotes, that should sufficiently convey my beliefs to an idiot like you who thinks that the over all concept of ‘hell’ can only be used by Christians. My beliefs are mine, I will have them and I will never feel compelled to explain them to you or anyone for acceptance.

        • jackdog

HUH???? Man get a grip, you are sick, seek help NOW!!!

    • Reality Check

Did you watch the video moron?
Did it look to you as though he tried to defuse the situation or did it look like he tried to escalate the situation?
How do you know he was scared?
How do you know he is not a serial killer?
Shouldn’t you know his record before you assume he’s not a serial killer?
Would it matter to you if he routinely uses excessive force and this is just the first time he is caught on tape?
There’s a lot you don’t know and there’s a lot you didn’t pay any attention to in the video.
Calling the cops should not be like “calling the executioner” and you are a sick freak and spineless coward if you think that’s the way it has to be.

      • Wuz nt Me

        1. Yes, I watched the video. You do yourself a disservice when you resort to name calling.
        2. They used non-lethal force multiple times. Cops aren’t couselors. That is why I say they should not have been called.
        3. How could he (or anyone) not be scared in a situation like that. How do YOU know he wasn’t scared…?
        4. It’s a fairly safe assumption that he is not a serial killer.
        5. Should I know your record before I assume you aren’t a serial killer?
        6. Yes, it would matter to me if he regularly used excessive force and was still allowed to do his job. What’s your point?
        7. More name-calling…. grow up. I DON”T think that is the way it has to be but, that is the way it IS. The parents knew it and so do you.

    • david

I kind of had the same reaction as you. I wasn’t sure what to think. The cop seems disturbed for what happened. The cop seems like he tried to help in the only way he knew how (before the shooting) but I think if they were more calm maybe this would have been different.

  • In The Bank

No sane person argues that this is not murder. The scumbags trolling this thread are hired damage control. They have been on this thread all day trying to justify this act of murder and no one should take them seriously.
Any sane person can see this is a murder, and in a day or two we will find out that this cop has killed several victims, and most of them will be black.
This scumbag is a racist serial killer, I would bet my last dollar on it.

    • Robinson

I bet youre a paranoid schizophrenic just like the guy in the video. That’s the only way to explain the bullshit youre writing.

      • jackdog

Robinson, I bet you either suffer from Downs Syndrome, or you are just one simple minded jack ass.

    • ugottabekiddingme

I agree with you 100% But I also know that some of them really do believe what they say. These are the dangerous ones that take the easy way out of every situation by willfully allowing their beliefs and actions to be dictated by others.

      • In The Bank

There are ignorant people posting nonsense on topics like this to get their jollies, but for the most part these people work for various government agencies around the world. We are under attack in this country – on all fronts – and it would surprise you to know how many people are employed full time in this war against the American people.

Don’t be naïve, they count on your fear of being called paranoid or a “conspiracy theorist” if you state the obvious.

There are literally 10s of thousands of these trolls who make their living steering public debate on the internet in their perceived interests. This is no secret.

  • boss68

first this is tragic and I’m not the biggest fan of cops however some of you people are crazy….if a cop says drop the knife you should drop the knife. they were trying to prevent him from killing himself which he was clearly capable of and then shit got real. the cop has a family too that he will do anything to make sure he goes home to. this would have happened no matter the race of the individual. shooting him in the knee or whatever else ppl say isnt what they are taught certainly in the situation if he shoots him in the leg and it doent work then he might be dead. and murder? serial killer? please just stop you are all insane. hindsight is always 20/20 not to mention the cop was clearly upset at what he had to do… NEWSFLASH BAD SHIT DOES HAPPEN IN THIS WORLD AND YES SOME OF IT IS NECESSARY PLEASE STOP BEING NAIVE

    • HomebirthMomma

hahaha yeah they were trying to keep him from killing himself. Irony. When did kill or they will kill themselves, become, OK? Seriously. I thought the first rule was be safe and protect the safety of others?

    • Fuller Malarkey

Yo. Idiot. The cops were responding to a call for help with a man that is paranoid schizophrenic and suicidal. They act funny. They are not wired to respond to thug cops making demands.

      • jackdog

Thug cops, LOL dude go swallow your tongue and rid the world of your stupid half wit thoughts. OK

        • Christopher Tutt

You are a retard cop… POS. And yea I see ya in a cruiser and I promise EVERYONE I see I will be flipping off because most of them are exactly like you. Defend the wrong and criticize the innocent.

        • Dan Voluntarist Lyons

Choke on a doughnut, ya brownshirt sissy.

    • jon kolean

      You’re an idiot

    • why bother

So the logic is the cops should be called to come in and shoot the guy because he threatened himself? I think I get it now. The guy is not allowed to kill himself. Only the government should do it for him. Wow I ‘m good.

      • jackdog

You are one stupid asshat arnt you, I sure hope to God that you don’t have any or plan on having any kids.

        • Christopher Tutt

Once again here you are being an idiot… wow.

  • ugottabekiddingme

The man repeatedly tried to kick the door shut. This was a
power play by the cop. He, the cop opened the door, then decided he wasn’t
going to allow the man to shut the door. Once they had repeatedly
tased, him with little to no positive effect, shouldn’t their tactics have been changed to protecting themselves and the public by just closing the
fricken door?! This cop decided not to so. If you or I made the same decision, and chose to confront him with deadly force, instead of seeking safety, when we had plenty of chances to do so, we WOULD be convicted of a crime.

    • jackdog

Your are about one simple minded jerk off arnt you

      • katwill

        Pff, says this guy^^.

      • Christopher Tutt

Wonder if you ever get tired of being called an IDIOT.. why does it take so long for some comments/realities to sink into some peoples head when it is felt/repeated by the masses.

    • Kyle Sexton

That is an excellent observation. I feel awful, for using such trivial words to describe such a heinous crime.

  • Fuller Malarkey

Chris Dorner, where are you when we need you……

    • jackdog

      Doing your mammy, boy.

      • Dan Voluntarist Lyons

Go back to jacking your dog off, dogfucker.

  • Fuller Malarkey

So. I see the plebe cops are on board attempting to flame the thread until the thread gets shut down.

  • ugottabekiddingme

Who is the ‘bad guy’ here? A man in a room firing his gun at a man because he refuses to shut a door or a man trying to shut a door? It really is that simple people, put your thinking caps on.

    • Fairly sane

It’s not that simple the cops were called in and they have a duty, which we all know is to protect. A person not in their right mind has a weapon, he could hurt himself or his family. The police are there to extricate that man from the house. The sick mans actions, as sad and unfortunate for him dictated his own death. The police tried to get him help. An ugly event and to my eyes completely justified. Wish it hadn’t happened, wish it never happened before and hope it won’t happen again, but police are put in these situations and have to act accordingly. All the bitterness is pointless by the way, it just takes away from what little respect others might of had for you.

      • ugottabekiddingme

OK I’ll try the debate route, You say “he could hurt himself or his family”. Correct, but why then was his family not taken out of the house? You also state “The police tried to get him help”. When? I never saw anything like that in the video. And you say “police are put in these situations and have to act accordingly”. What did they do “accordingly”? One officer picked the lock, they opened the door, realized he had a knife, and then the man slammed the door shut. Looks to me like that would of been the time to re assess the situation and act “accordingly” by clearing the house of people and bringing in someone trained to to help this man. It looks to me like the cops we’re treating this like a typical first contact knock on someones door, not an attempt to help someone in a home that was in the middle of a paranoid schizophrenic episode.

        • Kyle Sexton

Also another mention in his ill quipped asinine argument, is hurt himself, no your a genius Sherlock he was suicidal so if someone is suicidal just shoot them right? Fairly Sane,, ugottabekidding me doesn’t need your idiotic respect, he earned mine. SO get the off your holier than thou horse.

  • Robinson

So this is the most recent COPS R CRAZY OMG POLICE STATE video circulating on the net. So law enforcement officers arrive on scene to a schizophrenic locked in a bathroom. They attempt to coax him out, and end up having to kick down the d…oor. They discover that crazy has a knife in his hands. They talk very calmly, then give him OVER ONE HUNDRED verbal commands to drop the knife. They then proceded to hit him with a taser, taser wears off, suspect recovers then charges an officer with a KNIFE in his hand. Officer shoots to stop the crazy, crazy dies. I have absolutely no idea how people are trying to spin this as an illegal shooting, I would have done exactly the same. I want to hear everyones thoughts

    • FrostByte

He had just been tased and was trying to stand up. He didn’t charge anyone, he clearly tripped over the edge of the tub and stumbled forward.

    • Dleannn

But he could have stopped after the 1st or 2nd shot. Didn’t have to empty the clip on his ass with 11.

      • Robinson

If someone with a knife was charging you, and you had a weapon you would have let loose more than two rounds.

        • Christopher Tutt

Charging yes but falling or even SINCE I HAVE BACKUP.. I would suggest that it was done in a MUCH MUCH less violent way.

Wow you love to give cops the benefit of the doubt when they are FULLY in the wrong. Let me guess you or you have a family member that is a cop. They chose the job and they are a POS. There isn’t a “protect and serve” anymore. It is violate and harass.

    • Elizabeth Voetberg

how about wounding him in the leg if they have mental problems and not killing him. There are other body parts that can sustain injury without death and disable a body, it is not war its call of service. 11 shots is murder. i understand he shot and lost sight in fear of his life but the officer has to be in control.

      • Lucius

Officers are not trained to wound people. They don’t shoot to wound. Pulling out your gun and shooting someone is the last thing an officer wants to go through. So no. That’s not an option. If an officer has to pull out his weapon and shoot it is to kill. That is why they also use stun guns before using lethal force. In an attempt to get them under control. Which the officers in this video did, but it didn’t work.

You realize that 90% if not more of all police officers across all agencies retire without using lethal force on someone? My point is that most likely you have never had to put yourself in that situation and/or never had to shoot someone dead who was coming at you with a knife. Yes, officers are trained. But they are people also. He yelled to drop the knife dozens of times. It is a sad situation, but to call this murder or brutality is insane.

Also most hospitals and mental health agencies protocol is to go through 911 if the person in question is armed.

        • Kyle Sexton

DIPSHIT, what part of mentally disturbed and having schizophrenia do you fail to comprehend?

        • Elizabeth Voetberg

just so you know my hubby an officer and i still disagree with their laws. I have been in that situation and I would sleep like a baby.

      • jackdog

officers are trained to shot until the threat is stopped, it could have been one shot or one hundred, and as far as shooting him in the leg, you should have a young mentally ill man come at you with a butcher knife and lets see you wing him. You dumb ass liberal

        • Kyle Sexton

Your not a conservative so stop trying to call other people liberals. He as already on the ground then the officer shot him several more times. Your a special kind of stupid?

          • Christopher Tutt

Yep I do believe that he IS that special kind.

        • Dan Voluntarist Lyons

You bring a gun to a knife-fight? You go to jail for using excessive force! A pig with a badge brings a gun to a knife-fight? Two weeks paid vacation. I hope you pull over the wrong illegal immigrant, one who ain’t afraid to go back to jail.

      • Stephanie Fouts

This article doesn’t say where he was shot. The fact that he’s dead doesn’t mean they shot him in the head, just that he bled out. Who knows where he got hit. But I agree that he shouldn’t have shot 11 rounds. I think he just panicked.

        • Guest

Are you THAT THICK? REALLY? REALLY? 11 shots? REALLY. Your a special kind of stupid aren’t you?

        • Kyle Sexton

Panick, this mother fucker wouldn’t hold the water for any Marine or Army infantry soldier in Iraq, fuckin panzie. He knew he was wrong and continue to shoot after the guy fell too the ground. He belongs in hell!

        • Tim Ladwig

“My son did not deserve 11 shots to the head”

    • trent capaul

you are a dick and i wish your whole family gets shot by cops for no reason and i will not even raise a question as to why they kill them, cos i know its because ur family have a dick like u, so they deserve to die

      • jackdog

Trent, I can tell that you and your family will now die a horrible death at the hands of a evil person, it is your vibes that you give off man. Sorry I just feel that something bad is going to happen to you and your family now because you know what that cop did was justified and your are wishing evil and death upon him and his family. Sorry man for your future loss.

        • Christopher Tutt

And you one that allows COP killers to run the streets will hopefully end up at the wrong end of one of the POS’s. Then you can talk about how “well” he preformed his duties.

        • Dan Voluntarist Lyons

Eat a cat-shit and cigarette butt salad with shattered glass sprinkles.

          • t socrates

            …13 years old?

        • dude

how many dicks u suck today fagdog, i meant jackdog..haha u r tripping and the vibes u give is clearly that ur a cop’s mistress and love to eat their ass and suck cocks while they are killing others…. but u know what, whatever makes u happy,,haha there are plenty of cocks for u man.. am happy for ya. now go die happy

    • Stephanie Fouts

I completely agree with you. I don’t think yelling at a paranoid schizophrenic helped but once that cop calmed down and kept telling him to let it go, that they’re here to help but can’t do it til he drops the knife, it was handled better. Whether he tripped or ran at them, the cop reacted. I would have done the same thing, because that is how most human beings would respond. We just react. Don’t listen to all the ass holes on here because chances are they would do the same thing if charged with a knife. I wish he hadn’t shot 11 rounds, but he did try to revive him, and he obviously wasn’t happy about his death. Also, as cold as this may sound, the man was trying to kill himself. Chances are it would have happened anyways, just by knife rather than gun. It’s sad, but no one person’s fault.
And before anyone freaks out on me, I don’t normally support cops, I only know one good cop, and the rest I have met are scum. But from what I can see, this isn’t a bad one.

    • the p00dah

Yep. I know alot of the cops are insane today, stuff like Kelly Thomas and so many other abuses, but this one here was justified. I mean, you run at cop with a knife, you are going to get shot. However, i think when he was in the tub laying down, they could have had two guys rush in and just tase the crap out of him. He would have been incapacitated at that point, with 2-3 tasers on him. It didnt have to get to that point, but unfortunately , it did.

      • t socrates

May the cops be called on YOUR emotional crisis.

        Good Luck.

    • Firecat

There are actually crazy people, who know about their crazyness and do want to hurt people, but this is not one of those crazy people.

Most crazy people do have a mental disorder, yes, but that does not make him a crazy person.

You must understand that these types of people are often hallucinating as though they were on a dark version of LSD. Except, that is what their entire life is like without the proper medication.

Once that person has that medication they are much more sociable and can even do some things that regular people can do all the time – like work a part time job.

You probably know someone thats mentally ill and just don’t know about it.

But then again, if you aren’t educated enough to understand that not every person thinks, reacts and does the same thing like some kind of mindless-drone, then any explanation or any further educating is just plain useless. It would be like trying to throw a book through a brick wall.

    • Gama Xul

I believe it will be found as a legal (but excessive) shooting also. It’s only legal because they are trained to do exactly this, therefore, won’t be found guilty of a crime. Of course it is wrong, but such is what disgusts me about law enforcement. Legal homicide.

The officer falls short in morality and problem solving skills. I’m seeing a lot more police that can’t solve problems, but instead exacerbate to a rapid completion. They can’t tailor their behavior to a given scenario. It’s as if the only tool these cops have is a hammer and all they see are nails. These are the real reactionary meat-head grunts. I’ve had encounters with a few of these types of cops. They got to be handled like tools. Each have particular flaws for manipulating, discover them early. But it’s best to avoid them entirely. Too bad you can’t specify to the operator, not to dispatch narcissistic homicidal officers.

  • jackdog

Strange how this has become a money making scam for the family….just kidding, I wouldn’t expect anything less from these people.
Bottom line is the cop did everything he was trained to do, the nut charged him so he shot and killed him, end of story, suicide by cop. Now the family is going to sue the police get several hundreds of thousands and spend it on spinners for their new cars, gold chains because anyone that sees them around their necks will be reminded of the struggle of the black man, drugs will be bought because what else are these poor black folks to do with their sad lives?
Every black activist will be screaming racism and the white cop murder the poor helpless black man, never mind he lunged at the officer with a rather large knife, but hey, if he would have stabbed and killed the officer he would have been a hero.
I can’t wait for Obama to make a statement now.

    • Firecat

I’d say that was starting to get racist when you assumed they would be buy ‘gold chains, spinners and drugs’.

You OBVIOUSLY have had ZERO, ZILT, ZIP, NATO experience with a friend, family member or ANYBODY that is mentally unstable or that has a mental condition

Here’s a little lesson for you Jackdog.

People who are suffering from mental problems, SUCH AS, Paranoid Schizophrenia – when not taking their medications, AS it appears this fellow wasn’t doing so – NEEDS MEDICAL ATTENTION, NOT A SOME TRIGGER HAPPY COPS.

Unless the officer is a complete idiot (might still be any ways) he would be wearing a protective vest Which stops bullets, and if I’m not mistaken, it has the chance to stop a knife too.

The police of many countries have NO TRAINING, and no COMMON SENSE when dealing with someone that has a mental disorder.

I’m so angry that this happened.

    • Christopher Tutt

Don’t know why they “hide” downvotes. Because you my friend are an IDIOT.

Scared little bitch cops shouldn’t have a license to kill. Yet you feel they should.

The POS cop. The bitch overreacted yet you want to give him a medal. Since I am a military vet. would you like talk to me about it. You know, someone that may know a thing or two about training, killing and such. Talk to me on how someone that is in a “pressure” situation should act? You and your ilk are the reason that these fucktards get away with shit like this.

    • Dan Voluntarist Lyons

You defending those pigs? Eat a dick.

    • Dan Voluntarist Lyons

“Jackdog” sounds like your friday night, pal.

    • t socrates

Judging by the quality of the materials in the build of their home – you have ZERO evidence to assert ANY/ALL of the racial economic stereotypes your bigoted mouth just vomited onto the internet.

Thanks for helping us all see YOUR colors ;)

    • CT Jaynes

You love jackboot thugs, your name says so. How does cop boot taste? Like bacon? Boot-licker.

  • katwill

Ever watch someone talk someone out of suicide? Does aggressively yelling at a mentally unstable person seem like a good way to calm them back down to a reasonable place? Even if the victim had a weapon, that is NOT, at all how you handle crisis prevention. Aside from the fact that the victim actually fell before “charging at the cop,” even if someone is charging at you, 11 rounds from 5-6 feet away is 7 rounds too many. Just one extra round than is necessary is enough to dictate the outcome of a trial. If Marissa Alexander was charged for standing her ground against her aggressive husband, charging at her and threatening her life, and she only shot one *warning* shot, then this fucker deserves SOMETHING. It is sad that calling the police became the last option, because clearly, the only thing that qualifies them for a case like this is the gun on their hip and the law on their side. Why couldn’t the mental health hospital send a staff member over with a police escort?

    • t socrates

Progressive, intellectual, SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS cities like Seattle have already implemented these types of Social Worker police units. They’ve proven it effective.

That being said – THERE IS NO LONGER ANY REASON for ANY POLICE DEPARTMENT in the US to behave in this awful, dangerous, aggressive & disastrous manner. Hasn’t been for some time. If the state actually ‘cared’ about human life, these programs would have been initiated years ago.

      Do the math.

      [DISCLAIMER FOR OBNOXIOUS POLITICAL DITTO-HEADS:
In this case the use of the word “Progressive” is NOT for any ‘political identification’ but rather, that ACTUAL definition of the word. Turn off your TV. It divides you, to conquer you.]

  • Mike M

@ The people saying he charged the officer, that is false… watch the video carefully, he got up, started getting tazed ( you can even hear the sound of the tazer and the other officer telling him to taze him), and thus starts violently shaking from the taze and falls to the ground out of the tub, meanwhile the officer unloads into him. Not sure how ignorant you have to be to say the officer was charged at.

    • saintroshi

He was already being tazed when he stood up. Watch again.

  • Bodinky100

They should have some sort of jacket and gloves that are made out of material that a knife cannot penetrate. They could keep it in the trunk of every squad car, it could be easily slipped on and has a face shield as well. The guy was in the tub and going nowhere, they could have put that special jacket on and pride the knife away and gotten the man the help he needed. This cop executed this poor guy, straight up murder!

  • Darren

You can easily tell who is a cop or is closely related to a cop in the comments.

    • Dan Voluntarist Lyons

      F’kin copsuckers, I tell ya.

  • BKAYALLDAY

    COLD BLOODED MURDER

  • Josh Rowe

This is nothing new now days. Cops kill innocent people all the time and get away scott free with nothing ever happening to them. It’s scary times we’re living in. I mean really… call the cops for help.. get killed or have someone you love killed as a result! And people wonder why cops are so hated now days…

    • t socrates

Cops in the US kill 8X MORE Americans than ALL terrorism AROUND THE WORLD!!!

      “Homeland Security” is a SHAM.

These statistics make it OBVIOUS that the ‘War on Terror’ is nothing but PROPAGANDA.

  • Ryan

That piece of shit should be charged with murder. His intention was not to stop the man, which he could have done with a single shot. His intention with 11 gun shots, was clearly to kill the man, and give him absolutely no chance of being saved. The video clearly shows the first shot dropped him to the floor. The other ten shots fired at the man while he was down, served no other purpose but to end his existence. This is nothing more than an intentional and cold blooded execution.

    • Reality Check

Thanks for being a sane human being.
This is as clear a case of murder as there has ever been.

  • Gama Xul

Had to shoot him 10+ times, eh? These cops have to learn how to fight. Whatever happened to using a baton? And why in the Hell would family members believe uniformed strangers with guns are more equipped to dissolve this type of situation. He was their son, wouldn’t they know him better? Police don’t know how to talk to people anyway; they aren’t trained for it. Police are trained for snap-count protocol encounters that escalate to force. Police are legal hit squads; you call them against someone you want dead.

If the guy is trying to close the damn door (multiple times), then he isn’t a threat to you. You need to know when to back down, many encounters just can’t be solved by barking directives at strangers.

The greatest threat to public safety is the state. Police are agents of the state, they no longer serve the public; haven’t for decades.

  • Ho Hum

I am normally very critical of cops. I think they get away with murder lots of times – but in this instance I don’t know how the officer could have handled the situation any differently.

I lost count of the number of times the officer pleaded with him to drop the knife. It is obvious that the officer wanted this to end peacefully. He tried to subdue the man using a tazer but it did not work for long. When the man got out of the bathtub and bolted towards the officer the officer had NO CHOICE but to use lethal force. Within seconds the officer was on the floor administering CPR trying to save his life.

Don’t blame the officer in this situation. The fact that the decedent was mentally ill is irrelevant . A mentally ill person can be just as lethal as a sane person – actually they are MORE lethal because they will not listen to reason.

    • t socrates

Your loved one will be in crisis.
      The police will be called.

      Good Luck.

Suicide by cop. Justified shooting. All the steps of use of force were met. Verbal commands, non-lethal force and deadly force. Excessive? Yes ? First degree murder? No.

    • CT Jaynes

Does cop boot taste good? Boot licker.

    • Fuller Malarkey

In YOUR opinion. Fact is, that pig cop is shaking in his boots wondering if this incident will be put in front of a jury of the VICTIM’S peers. Would a family member of someone with mental illness believe this was justified?

  • AJ

IF THE COP ROLLED ROGUE WARR OR MONK HE COULD’VE JUST DISARMED HIM. KILL SHOT OP.

  • jeff

Wouldn’t have even heard about any of this if Michael had been white. Quannel X sure wouldn’t care either. All that guy had to do was put down the knife and be reasonable. Instead he got blasted because he was an idiot. Cop had no choice. Nice shooting.

    • Maurice Fails Jr

What part of : ” suffering a mental health breakdown” do you not understand, idiot?

    • CT Jaynes

Boot licker…. Do they taste like bacon?

  • Reality Check

This cop did everything in his power to escalate the situation.

He did not try to defuse the situation, he was not dealing with someone who had broken the law and he was not dealing with someone who was a threat to others.

He was in the bathroom saying that he wanted to help as he repeatedly tasers the victim, which is the equivalent of sitting on top of the victim, and continually beating him, while telling him to stop resisting.

The truth is that this cop knew exactly how to play this situation so that he could execute the victim and make it look justifiable.

In the next day or two it will come out that this cop has killed several times before and his victims are black people. What we most likely have here is a racist serial killer.

Bottom line: This is – Murder One – and he should be tried for his life.

  • Blackjack69

Looked reasonable to me. Do not bring a knife to a gun fight

    • CT Jaynes

People need to understand that there are 10s of thousands of paid government trolls on the internet from various government agencies around the world. They’re there to disrupt, spew nonsense and hate and misinform in an effort to destroy constructive internet discourse. (However, some of these people also do this for nothing in support of their perceived interests, most notably, organization like NOW and the “Southern Poverty Law Center” – among others.)

These people are here to help “divide and conquer” the American people for a paycheck.

Mostly, they work for british intelligence (talk about a misnomer) and/or the CIA/NSA, but they could be working for others as well. They count on you remaining silent about this, by attacking people who point it out as being paranoid or a “conspiracy theorist”.

The truth is that the American people are under attack – on all fronts – and the internet campaign is a large part of what they are using to defeat us.

In this case, if a person doesn’t understand that this is murder, they are either insane and spewing nonsense for kicks or they are engaged in a covert war against the rule of law and the American people.

  • saintroshi

Normally I am very much against police brutality and unjustified use of force. In this case a psychotic man started to charge him with a knife through being tazed. He used appropriate non-lethal force to deescalate the situation first, repeatedly asked him to drop the knife and the man didn’t listen. I would have fired as well. The officer thought his life was at risk, of course he fired too many times. Any one of you would have done the same thing in the situation.

    • David Phillips

How would they have handled this in a prison if an inmate had a knife? They would have a group of guys with shields go in and press the guy up against the wall and disarm him. I guess the policemen don’t have time for such formalities.

    • Fuller Malarkey

Nonsense. That cop antagonized a mentally ill person in need of intervention, escalating the situation. No different than poking a chained dog with a stick until the dog reacted in self defense. The victim here had delusions and was scared. The cop got caught up in a power struggle. He had no regard for the well being of the man or his family. He was only focused on dominance.

  • CT Jaynes

    911′s a joke.

  • CT Jaynes

    NEVER trust cops.

  • Brett Johnson

dude.. you have this totally wrong.. he rushed the door, you can actually hearing the officer when he was next to the bath tub telling him he did not want to hurt him.. you are so biased on this one.. have you ever bee in that situation ??

this goes back to how the states have cut back on mental health issues.. people, like michael probably would had been in a mental hospital until he was well. however, because of huge budget cuts to mental programs they are roam the streets or end up in jail where they do not belong.

could the situation been handled better ? probably, but you were not there, you did not have someone coming at you with a knife..

    • David Phillips

Perhaps next time, they might wait for additional backup and a riot shield or two.

    • Fuller Malarkey

NOTHING compelled that cop to go in and escalate the situation other than his out of control ego and need to control and gain 100% compliance from someone in a mental health emergency that prevented him from complying. The voices in his head were antagonized by verbal and physical bum-rush the cop used on him. This entire incident was about power.

  • Liu Kang

This is the first time I’ve seen this video in full length. After watching this version, yeah I would have shot him too, but probably in the leg and avoiding arteries. They could also have used a mattress to press him up against a wall and then detain him, like they do at certain troubled youth facilities. What, you think you can run at an officer holding a knife and think they’ll still be down for talking you through it? Get real.

    • David Phillips

You get real. They had the guy cornered in the bathroom and there was no reason to rush him. They could not have waited for more policemen with some riot shields to show up. Same way they disarm inmates in prisons.

      • Reality Check

If someone had talked to him like a human being he would have probably dropped the knife.

No doubt he felt threatened by the psychopath screaming at him, and tasing him, and he probably thought the knife was his only means of defending himself.

The cop is a cold blooded murderer and most likely a racist serial killer. I would bet the farm that he has killed before and that his victims are all black.

  • David Phillips

Don’t ever summon the Police for any reason unless you are trying to get somebody killed.

  • Fuller Malarkey

    WWCDD?

    What Would Chris Dorner Do?

  • Reality Check

White racist cops kill blacks all the time in this country and it needs to stop. No sane person would argue this point, except now white men are also indiscriminately murdered by the police as well.

The only people who are immune to this kind of senseless murder are – white females – and I don’t say that to create division, I say it because it’s the unequivocal truth and can be proven in a court of law well beyond any reasonable doubt.

White females have the power to stop this needless violence, but they prefer to champion the cause of the murder of innocent children, and the murder of over 50% of all black children in the womb.

Is it any wonder why they refuse to denounce racist pigs like Margaret Sanger?

    • Julio Garcia

Really?! Get a hobby! Maybe wood working or cooking! That was 4 paragraphs of WTF!

    • JJ

Hahaha ok here we go again with the all lightly colored cops are racist bs. You realize there’s significantly more black on white violence than the other way around? Time for a reality check, BRO!

  • Julio Garcia

Oh my how everyone is so quick to hate the police! Just prior to the shooting the officer is speaking to him very calmly with compassion! Drop the knife it’s in your right hand. Whoever said you would have shot him in the leg get real! Center mass of your target to stop the threat.

Yes he over did it but he was visibly distraught after. Once the man is seen with the knife the police can’t just let it go. If they would have sat there and the guy would have skit his jugular everyone would be saying “racist cop watches as man kills himself.” You’re all ignorant as hell. My first question would have been who in a panic and being worried about they’re mentally disturbed son sets up a camera?

  • Reality Check

Just look at all the comments. Where are all the white females who were simply outraged that one of the “sisterhood” got a bruised tit from the police?

Most of what there is on this topic are insane trolls and malefactors trying to justify murder.

Come on “ladies” – at least try to cushion your fall from grace a little bit, even if you don’t mean it.

  • Vinny Verducci

Personally I would have shot the guy the first time he came towards the door with the knife. I think the officers involved showed exemplary restraint. I am sorry for the mans family, but for them to try and turn this around (looking for a pay day no doubt) and blame the officer is disgraceful. Mental issues or not the man posed a threat to the officers lives and refused to comply with multiple requests to drop the knife. Charge me with a knife in your hand and I would have done the same thing as the officer.

    • Real Deal

“Personally I would have shot the guy the first time he came towards the door with the knife”

That’s because you are a psychopath.

      • Vinny Verducci

“That’s because you are a psychopath.”
No, that’s because I value my life. The man had plenty of chances to drop the weapon and refused. He posed a risk to everyone in the house (that is why the police were called in the first place). You come at me with a deadly weapon in your hand and I think you intend to harm or kill me with it I am dropping you just like the officer did. I hate police brutality and lawlessness as much as anyone out there but this was not an example of brutality or lawlessness on the part of the police. This is a clear cut case of self defense on the part of the officer.

        • Real Deal

No, you are a psychopath, and that’s never going to change.

          • Vinny Verducci

Ok “non-psychopath”. What would you have done in that situation?. I’m guessing you would be lying in a pool of your own blood after that man stabbed you repeatedly.

          • Real Deal

Keep it up, all you’re doing is confirming that you are in fact a psychopath.

The cop is a murdering psychopath and I bet you are too.

Someone needs to take a shovel and see what’s buried in your back yard.

          • Vinny Verducci

So, self defense is a symptom of psychosis? Your comment below seems to take the side of the officer. But, my saying I would have done the same thing in that situation makes me a psychopath? The man was a threat to everyone in the house. The officer probably saved the lives of that mans family.
Have you ever dealt with someone suffering from psychosis? I am guessing no. If you had you would know that they can be very dangerous and reason and logic do not sway them in any way. He should have been in an institution where he could not pose a threat to his family or anyone else but unfortunately he was not. This was a case of self defense pure and simple.

          • JJ

Real deal is in fact a troll trying to stir things up. You’d have to be insane to think the cop wasn’t justified. Sad situation, but it’s pretty apparent he didn’t want it to end like that. I’d say to the cop, “look bud, better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.”

          • carl56

A great argument for using a gun – and shooting pigs from a safe distance. I fear that’s what is soon going to happen – pigs are just out of control. Have you noticed? To murder and coerce – that’s their motto.

      • GR Arnold

That’s because Vinny has common sense and knows how to use it. You however are proving to be beyond salvation. Such is life with Annointed One supporters like yourself.

  • Brian Smith

They gave him plenty of chances to drop the knife. If he came flying at me with knife in hand he would of got shot too. Maybe not 11 times, but I’d be damned sure my daughter would see me again that night before I just stand.there with a guy charging at me with a knife. There’s no way he “tripped” out of the tub as fast as he got up and moved out of it. It’s always black people who say “oh what a tragedy, this was murder” when a police officer kills a black guy who won’t comply and is wielding a dangerous weapon. They used escalation of force which included being nice, picking lock, kicking door, forceful directions, stun gun, leathal force which by the officers judgement was required as the man came up on him fast. Even before the final lunge the officer kept backing away instead of just shooting when the man threatened to throw the knife. I would of put him down right then. Wonder how many of the gun wielding pro NRA people on here would have fired if they were threatened by a man with a knife saying he was going to throw it at you
You would of came up with some story about how you’re a hero and didn’t want anyone else to get hurt and feared for your life. Hypocrites.

    • Real Deal

Give it a rest nutcase, there are enough trolls here already.

      • Fuller Malarkey

Oh looky, Real Squeal is out in the day room with access to a computer.

  • Deal With It

    These are the facts:

    • GR Arnold

Fine. Next time you can get between the knife-wielding lunatic and the cop and DEAL WITH IT instead. Take Quannell X-box with you; that way 3 in society can learn a valuable lesson at the cost of 1.

      • Deal With That.

        You are a real sicko.
Is that monkey your significant other?
I doubt that anything human would want you.

    • Jeff Klein

      Lol. Not even close.

  • Loren

So for all the people out there that thought the cop did the wrong thing by shooting this guy, can any of you tell me what the cop should have done?

    • Justice For Killer Cops

Read the comments you stupid nutcase. All you want to do is play Devil’s advocate to get your rocks off, because you can’t get anything human to have sex with you.

He should have done what our proud military does – bombed the entire neighborhood. He’d be in line for a promotion and a hero’s welcome.

    • BettyWhite0321

I guess they could have clubbed the crap out of him while he was down in the tub, but that would probably look pretty bad on video too.

    • Cheryl

Yes. If he HAD no other choice than to shoot, he could have shot him once in the leg not 11 times in the head!!

      • Godzilla11

Cops aren’t trained to shoot in the leg! Someone comes at you with lethal force, and you knick ‘em in the leg? GTFO, you guys expect cops to be un-human, and when they react accordingly to how ANYONE would act when threatened (remember, they deal with the scum of the world, the people who YOU need to call someone else to protect you from) they get judged harshly by other criminal-minded people.

  • GR Arnold

Sad, but this is what happens when mental offenders stay off their meds. Unfortunately a lot of them stop their meds so they can consume alcohol and this is when things spiral down quickly and often devastating results. I pray for all those involved.

    • Poetic Justice

      Your prayers are meaningless.
Justice is what is needed here and that means the cop needs to be on trial for his life.

      • GR Arnold

There will be a trial. It’s called a Grand Jury review. If they choose to indict him then the odds are stacked against him. The rule is if you see a weapon you draw a weapon. Suicidal and armed people are not easy to predict. Either way, it’s fight or flight and this is a choice YOU would have to face if presented with the same situation.

        • Poetic Justice

Listen you whack job, any good cop could have easily handled this situation with no violence and they do it every-single-day, but no one ever hears about it.

There are a lot of good cops out there who – would not – have murdered this young man.

This cop is a psychopath and he needs to pay with his life.

          • Jeff Klein

Wrong on all counts, as usual.

          • GR Arnold

The only whack job on here is YOU … the one that is trying to bypass one of the most important steps in the criminal justice process. Quit following the Annointed one as close as you obviously do and maybe the system will return to functioning again. While he’s awaiting the outcome of a Grand Jury review … GO SOAK YOUR SIMPLE PSYCHOTIC HEAD … and take a class or two in Constitutional law so you can actually give folks the impression you have your mind together.

          • Godzilla11

I agree with you on one part, but the cop in this instance was doing what any person who values their life would do. Everyone on the internet is so tough when it comes to those who threaten THEM, but when it’s a cop, they’re supposed to offer the potential attacker tea and biscuits?

      • Godzilla11

You must be as insane as the guy threatening to come at a cop with a knife. Officers responded as they should have in this instance.

  • Patrick Gillock

    OBJECTIVELY.

    Nobody did the right thing.

This man should have dropped his knife, but he is mentally handicapped.

The officer(s) should be able to disarm a knife wielding civilian but they shot him.

    BOTTOM LINE.

Train police to handle a potentially dangerous situation without killing people.

    • Jeff Klein

Incorrect. The officer responded to lethal force with lethal force.

There is no law enforcement agency that instructs patrolmen to meet a lethal instrument with less lethal force.

      • JJ

LOL people have it made up in their minds that cops are as proficient as Jet Li in martial arts. Cops are trained to use defensive tactics (fancy word for hand to hand fighting), but only as a last resort. If someone comes at you with a knife, are YOU going to keep your gun holstered and karate chop the knife away? NO!

  • Reality Check

Think of someone you know who’s a good cop. The first person who comes to my mind is Sherriff, Richard Mack.

Could you imagine Mr. Mack acting like this and escalating the situation the way this psychopath did?

Of course you can’t, because sane people don’t act the way this cop did. Mr. Mack would have calmly handled this situation in a professional manner, which would have maintained the safety of everyone on the scene. He would have called for more backup if needed and that young man would still be alive.

This cop is a murderer, and he needs to pay with his life.

    • Jeff Klein

Except that its not a murder.

Somhow I dont tbink that the officer could have done right by you no matter what he did.

      • Fuller Malarkey

Expecting someone tasked with preserving the peace or restoring the peace is reasonable. Antagonizing someone in a mental health emergency until you get a negative reaction that justifies killing is unreasonable. And sadistic.

        • Zeroed Out

I’ve spoken out many times in the past several months over how an officer used undue force and should be put in jail. But given this video, I’m not so sure. The officer didn’t just go in and shoot his gun at the first sight of the knife. He told the guy to drop it many times. They even tried to tase the guy first, but he still wouldn’t let go of the knife. Then after he gets shot, the officer is clearly upset that he felt forced to take that action. Perhaps this officer wasn’t perfectly equipped to handle a guy in such a mental state, but that’s on the DEPARTMENT, not the officer. He tried to control the situation, but what else could he have done given his training?

          • Fuller Malarkey

All a matter of perspective. The cop KNEW he had a mental health emergency on his hands, and chose to deal with the man with aggression…….screaming, badgering a person in a terrified delusional state. The only thing prohibiting Sgt. Fury from looking into Plan “B” was his ego.

When the only tool you have is a hammer……

      • Fuller Malarkey

Know what that cop could do to win my approval after the fact?

        Eat his gun.

    • Johny

I expect all cops the ones I know and don’t know to do what he did. They asked him put it down. Told him to put it down. If you don’t put it down we have to shoot you. They tased him which at that point was needed. Dude was already bleeding from cutting his own neck. Went and asked him to put down the knife, he still said no. Gets up and starts running at the cop with the knife. If you heard them yell the taser wasn’t working anymore. Dudes fairly big and coming at him so he responded to keep himself and other officers safe. Sucks dude died. 11 shots really needed, probably not. Doesn’t change fact he ran through a taser at a cop with a knife. So yes to answer your question the cops I know I would want to keep themselves safe.

      • FYI

        Put the crack pipe down.
Good cops don’t act like this psychopath.

  • Jeff Klein

Apparently noone here understands the proper application of lethal force against persons with edged weapons, and tbe associated case law. The officer was correct in his application of force, and RESPONDED ACCORDING TO HIS TRAINING.

Stop juding this incident emotionally. The law is all that matters here.

    • Fuller Malarkey

And apparently, you don’t understand that we have the right to “due process”, which does not include arbitrary killing by government agents to gain compliance. I have received no notice that our rights have been suspended in the name of officer safety.

Matter of fact, I think we will be seeing some counter actions in the name of citizen safety. Worked at the Bundy Corral, should work in our communities.

      • JJ

When you charge someone with a knife, the only right you have left is a HOLE in the ground. Let me guess – that officer is a racist too? It’s scary to think we can watch the same video and draw completely opposite conclusions. Nonlethal force was used over and over again, the cop even began talking softly to calm the guy and all he needed to do was let go of the knife. That simple…but nope, he gets up, knife in hand, and comes at the officer. Sorry guys, life isn’t a fairytale.

        • Fuller Malarkey

Rule 1. Don’t antagonize the guy with the knife.

Used car salesmen know how to overcome objections without using tasers or deadly force to achieve their goals. Based on that information, it would seem the world needs more used car salesmen, and less cops.

How many nurses do you read about drilling their uncooperative patients with a full magazine? Maybe we should replace cops with nurses.

          • Guest

Those whom live by the knife die by those who don’t…so really one should’t antagonize the guy with the gun. But then again I’m just trying to spin something in the direction I see fit.

    • Richard

Probably a cop waiting for his day, he can justify killing an innocent mental patient. You POS.

    • Freedom

“The law is all that matters here”. Sometimes laws – and the training to enforce them – are plain wrong in and of themselves. (Nuremburg trials were premised on this). If nurses are expected to handle these kind of situations in a hospital setting without shooting the patient, then subduing such a person can be done without firing one shot.

  • Fuller Malarkey

At the rate these things are happening, it’s time we start looking at taking measures to insure “citizen safety”.

  • Jarrett Brown

This is horrific. Prayers to the family. Prayers to the officer. Wow

  • deej

call the firefighters not cops theyre too unprepared. schizophrenics are very meek..this is a crime and the cops cant cya on this one i hope that dunce loses his job cuz hes no professional.

    • Fuller Malarkey

What other job can you get where if you kill the customer, the worst that can happen is you get fired?

Can you imagine a waitress that opens up with a 9 on a bitchy customer, and is assessed by fellow waitresses? “Good shoot”, every time.

  • deej

wtf…….that was excessive..not to mention his heart keep shocking him,? what are u an asshole. sue family sue twelve shots one in the leg would suffice and the cops have bullet proof this n that..that really was offensive..the poor guy and family. im pissed

    • http://AnimeFor.Us/ Devlin

I would call for no less than murder charges, put those pigs to death!

      • Godzilla11

You’re an idiot. Only a criminal minded person would see it that way! he was clearly a threat and as not only officers but people they have the right to defend themselves from harm. Just like any other person, they shouldn’t be required to get confirmation of a threat by some maniac with a knife in their chest before they can resort to defense.

        • Richard

A troll for the dark-side. Sure glad I’m no where near you.

        • Evan

Six shots? That’s how many you need to defend yourself from a guy who trips over the bathtub and is clearly prone on the floor? Cop didn’t fire gun level, he shot down, and he shot down b/c the guy was on the floor. He’s gonna have to get up first before he’s a threat. Cop could have easily shot to disarm or disable. He was deliberately going for the kill shot. No other reason to unload your gun into a man prone on the floor.

  • Toby Nixon

I don’t think he had a knife in his hand. I also think he fell over the Bathtub and the cop just unloaded it into him.

  • http://AnimeFor.Us/ Devlin

Thank god for nanny cams.. fry piggies fry!! You worthless pos…

  • Jan S

isn’t that just special?! shot to death in his own bathroom! even if he was coming at the cop, he could have shot him in the leg but in the head???!!! and the government is afraid for citizens to have guns!!! THIS IS A TERRIBLE TRAVESTY!! I hope he lives a long life and has to relive that day in his head over and over again. Maybe next time he’ll do the right thing. …SMH..

    • Reality Check

“I hope he lives a long life and has to relive that day in his head over and over again”

You’re thinking this is a normal human being who is bothered about what he did, but the truth is that he will enjoy playing that scene over and over in his head because he is a deranged psychopath. He will probably masturbate to the thought of blowing this innocent man’s head off with 11 rounds at close range.

Do you have any idea what 11 rounds from a 9mm does to a person’s head? I can’t imagine there being much left of his head after that.

Watch the video over again if you have to. Think about what kind of person acts like this freak.

He needs to be put to death so he can’t relish the memories of all the victims he has murdered. I guarantee you that this is not his first victim, and it won’t be his last, if he is not locked up and put on trial.

Let a jury decide. If sane people are on that jury, he will be put to death.

      • Fuller Malarkey

I agree with you. Watch Sgt. Fury’s reaction after he dumped his mag into the victim. Looked to me like he was considering taking out the rest of the family so he wouldn’t have to deal with them.

        • Reality Check

I wouldn’t doubt if that thought went through his head one bit.

I think part of problem we’re dealing with is a public which has been conditioned to accept this type of behavior as “normal” by watching programs like “Cops” on Fox Network. They think that every command by police must be submitted to no matter what the situation or you are going to be wrestled to the ground and brutalized into submission.

Police who continue to act like this are in a world of hurt when people decide that they’ve had their fill of these deranged psychopaths.

These are Gestapo tactics, not the type of behavior our peace officers should be allowed to use on our people, especially those who have not committed any crime and are not endangering others.

          Keep speaking out.

        • Godzilla11

Typical criminally minded person, empathizing with those who threaten others’ welfares and hating cops no matter how justified they are. The officers did what they can here. The guy OBVIOUSLY did not want this guy to engage him and he was clearly pissed after shooting. Only a cop-hating sociopath would think he looked in any way “pleased” after this. You don’t cooperate and threaten others, especially an officer, and you can expect to get that right back.

    • Godzilla11

You fools are so hypocritical. The cop had every right, the end. It’s not the cops fault, it’s the guy who wasn’t taking justified orders and was putting others’ lives at risk.

      • Richard

Cut out the same cloth aren’t you, you jack-ass.

    • Godzilla11

What a foolish statement. Civilians with guns would be a problem after watching this video. The cops don’t shoot life threatening people in the leg. You want to do something stupid? Expect cops to justifiably be able to protect themselves, simply put.

      • liberty belle

you are definitely drinking the fluoride

  • Fuller Malarkey

Can you imagine what that family went through……hearing Sgt. Fury beller commands at their family member, a family member they KNEW was in a fit of delusions and fear….and then hear him open fire and go on a full mag dump.

There is absolutely no situation that cannot be made worse, simply by calling the police.

  • Adam of the Fifth Order

Is it possible that the officers could have clubbed the knife out of the guys hand or something?

    • Fuller Malarkey

Even simpler……..just pull the door shut.

Go to Plan “B” which is to arrange for mental health intervention to arrive and de escalate the situation.

Nurses deal every day with psychotic episodes. Ever hear of them dumping a full mag into a patient?

  • ShillTroll

I have read several pages of posts here. Most I see say the cop was justified, which I believe he was. They then get attacked by the same three people.
Here is another story featuring Texas, a black woman, a white cop, and quanell x.
    http://www.khou.com/news/texas-news/93-year-old-woman-shot-killed-by-Hearne-police-officer-258285641.html
When I first read this story I thought a racist Hearne cop shot another innocent black person. The front page piece failed to mention she had a gun and even fired it into the ground. In both cases the result is tragic and unnecessary. However, that doesn’t make these cops murderers.
Police brutality and violence is a growing problem in this country, but every case is not as clear cut as your emotional reaction leads you to believe.

Rule number one: Do not call the police! Period.
This family even knew this and attempted to get mental health help for their son. They were obviously so afraid of him though that they called the cops anyways.

Rule number two: If you are confronted by a violent situation do not “fire into the air”, “try to disarm a man with a knife”, “shoot him in the leg” or any of the other ridiculous scenarios the comenters here have thrown around. If your life is in danger end the situation immediately. This is a basic premise of self defense.

Rule number three: If you truly care about the mentally ill, then do something to help. I hold a meeting once a month with law enforcement professionals discusing what the best solution is to this problem. They hate this as much as the public. They aren’t trained or equipped to deal with the mentally ill though. In Texas they can not even, and rightly so, force an inmate to take medication. They want to help these people but under the current situation they can not. So if you want to see an end to mentally ill people being abused, mistreated, or killed then petition the government to provide care for them. Or better yet do something yourself to solve the situation. As an example the jail one of these men works at does not even have money in the budget to transport prisoners to the state mental health hospital. Nor does the hospital have resources to come get them. The solution is the state gave them a vehicle to help offset the costs.

    • liberty belle

police are public servants, when on duty their first responsibility is NOT self defense; it is defense of the public. If they dont like the rules they shouldnt be cops.

  • Jos America

It was suicide by cop. The world is better off. Sad but true. Deal with it.

    • Fuller Malarkey

We’re hoping the suicide thing goes full circle and the cop eats his gun.

    • Kelly Brown

You are a piece of crap!

  • Mike

Its horrible what happened a lossed life is never a good thing. He had a knife he was told over n over n over to drop it the officer expressed great self control to me they used the tazer cause they wanted to help him not kill him, even after being tazed a few times still would not drop the knife… he got up and lunged towards the cop knife in hand the cop had no choice. When you shoot, you shoot to kill 11 rounds may of been a lil much but we were not there, not in that cops shoes… again my heart goes out to the family and the officer

  • Max Igan

The one with the real mental health issue in this matter, as is so often the case, was the cop

  • juicylu

Looked as if the guy was getting up out of the tub to close the bathroom door to me.!! I think a taser and a transparent shield would have been a better solution and could have saved the mans life, where today he could be getting mental health help……But guess we will never know now!

  • Rawr Tiger

Yeah looks to be suicide by cop or impaired thinking.

I am about as anti cop as it gets , but that cop tried to get that guy to stop , he must have begged him to drop the knife a hundred times .. he pleaded with him .. and someone who is having a manic episode like that is dangerous when they have a weapon .. Now the real issue is why was that guy not in a facility where he could get treatment ? and thats the problem we have in this country these days .. we dont take care of our mentally ill at all .. we treat them with drugs for 24 to 48 hours and then they are sent back out onto the streets .. the truth is the guy probably would have killed himself anyway , but sadly he ended up being shot by an officer who said several times “please drop the knife im here to help you , I want to help you” of course the family will blame the police , file a suit against them and get paid , even after they called the cops to begin with .. and why would they call the police ???? because they were scared of what he would do .. they were so afraid they called men with guns to come and help them .. and now they want to blame those men for doing exactly what they should have done , defended themselves against a mentally ill person in the middle of a manic episode weilding a knife … e

    • OJ

if the family really didnt want him to be hurt they should never have called the cops , The cops dont get paid to deal with manic mentally ill people , they get paid to stop crazy people with weapons from killing others or killing them … the family shuld have called a mental health hotline and had him committed.. as i said , this is sad. this man needed help and he was let down by our system and now he is dead . we have to figure out how to take care of our mentally ill . simply drugging them for a few days and then letting them go doesnt work ..

      • Freedom

The family did what the mental health officials told them to do – to call 911. The family was following the directives of the mental health officials. I can’t blame the family for doing what the mental health officials told them to do.

      • Fuller Malarkey

Ever notice the similarities between cops and child molesters when it comes to accountability? It doesn’t take long before they place responsibility on the victims….

      • Citizen

Maybe you should read a lil before you comment! They called the “mental hospital” both times being informed to call 911 and were reluctant to do so for this reason right here that we are all commenting on!!

    • Tonya-Clay Davis

The objective appears to be make the guy comply to my demands, to control someone, not to save lives. And then the cops willfully constructed a situation in which the probability of the guy getting shot was ridiculously high. Back somebody into corner, where any movement toward the cops can be labelled a threat, create lots of stress with yelling, and guns pointed and bang, now I can get off on killing someone. Oh but it was justified.

      • Reality Check

Well said Tonya, keep speaking out. Our country surviving into the future depends on good people like you speaking out and often.
        Take Care

    • liberty belle

honey, if he was completely sane he would still have had good reason to keep ahold of that knife, hes black and the blacks have seen a lot, lot, lot of oppression and wrongful death at the hands of our public servants.

  • We Need Sane Cops

Everyone, think of someone you know who’s a good cop. Someone who’s a good person and doesn’t want to hurt others.

He would have called for more backup if needed and that young man would still be alive right now.

This cop is a murdering psychopath, and he needs to pay with his life.

    • Kent

Richard Mack lost almost all of my respect after his comments and behavior in the Nevada Cliven Bundy incident. I know cops, I know jailers, I know military, and I know myself. Some from each category are or I consider family. They are decent people who do not want to execute an innocent person.
If one of these people I personally know was in this situation I would be happy they were alive. I would be thankful they used lethal force.
There were many mistakes made in this incident. An innocent man died because of these cops actions. The cops should have never opened the door, but to assume the cops did all of this because they are psychopaths is unreasonable in my opinion.
The cops who shot that homeless man are murderers. They had non lethal instruments and never tried to use them. There are many incidents of police brutality and murder each year. What we saw here was not that in my opinion. Just poor judgement and training.

      • We Need Sane Cops

“Richard Mack lost almost all of my respect after his comments and behavior in the Nevada Cliven Bundy incident”

That says a lot about what kind of person you are. Based on that statement, I have no respect for you or anything you have to say.

Richard Mack is a good man, and if you don’t understand that, you are not worth listening to on any matter.

  • We Need Sane Cops

I’m about as pro-cop as they come, but that does not mean I will blindly call this a justifiable shooting, when it is a solid case of murder.

Most cops are good people, who never would have handled this situation the way this psychopath did, or else we would never hear about any other news story, except those of cops murdering innocent people, like this cop did.

The truth is that these types of situations are handled by good cops every-single-day all across this country without a weapon being drawn, much less dumping 11 rounds into the head of a man who was not an imminent threat to others and had not committed any crime whatsoever.

If you want psychopath cops, running around empting their clips into innocent people for no reason, then just keep supporting the actions of sickos like this. I know most of you don’t, the ones on this thread who are saying it was justified, are a few stooges who do it for a paycheck.

    • Maj. William Martin

In America your 8 X more likely to be killed by a Cop then an FBI Armed and trained PATSY Terrorist. Also, lock your dogs up. A Cop kills a Loyal pet every 98 Minutes; Where a #300 lb Cop fears for his life when a #12 lb dog barks at him or a 16 year old Toothless dog.

See: Israeli training US law Enforcement. GILEE and CIS Training. Don’t forget the Disabled man in a Wheel-chair with a PEN that was also shot to death.

Are you also an abortion fanatic who claims that no one wants to adopt “ugly black babies” like so many of your “sisterhood”. How long have you been worshiping the likes of Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood who said, “We don’t want word to get out that we want to exterminate the Negro race”?

The twenty one foot rule doesn’t apply when there is a door between you and the person in question and does not apply when the cop has the gun drawn and pointed at the victims head.

Take your racism somewhere else you sick, murderous pig.

  • G ROTHWELL

Ok…so several (at least 3 cops) could not put their guns down long enough to subdue a man who practically encased himself in a bathtub. The other cop in the scene may as well been picking his nose–he was useless. And 11 shots?? I guess 1 or 2 wasn’t enough…or 3….or 4……no 11 shots (ELEVEN)…

    • FYI

One shot is too many when the victim is mentally ill, is not a danger to others, and has committed no crime.

Since when is it okay to execute people for no reason, whether you fire one shot or 100?

    • mike

Firearms owner and competitive shooter here….total and uncontrolled use of the trigger. Disgusting.

      • Manuel

Remember trained police shooting that many times to bring a man down and the government experts expect home owners to fire 5 rounds or less. In Miami one guy in a Volvo was shot at some 300 almost 400 rounds by 23 police and was unarmed.

    • Rusty

They might have gotten scratched …. they are so afraid.

  • Carl Taylor

I thought they were professional up to the point where the escalated the whole situation when the one officer shouted “he has a knife” and then proceeded to kick the door in. Why didn’t they just tell him to drop the knife before coming out of the bath room? And I admit, after the first shot, that kid wasn’t getting back up. But that guy freaked out, lost his composure and damn near emptied his magazine. If I was on the Jury, I’d convict.

    • bullshit

they did tell him to drop the knife a billion times. he didnt. they dropped him instead. tough shit. move along.

      • Waldetto

No one was getting stabbed through the door! Who was the aggressor? Obviously, the police picking the lock and busting into a small room with a gun should have given the victim a right to defend himself! Shame he was murdered.

  • Jay Martin

Good officer, bad decision. That situation was just about under control IMHO.

  • vice86

Guy gets up in bath tub, officer shoots, guy falls outta bathtub, officer empties gun into dude.. Officer is a dummy. But what do i know, i wasn’t there.

  • garyspuppy

Knife or no knife, the man was in the bathroom, the door was locked, he at the time posed no danger to anybody. He had known mental health problems. Would it not have been wiser to call in a mental health specialist to talk to him through the door instead of further aggravating him, escalating the situation, and then forcing him to react in the manner that he did, like an animal in a corner?

    • c. hndz

Did you read the article? It said the family tried that multiple times but they were told to call 911

      • garyspuppy

Yes, I read that, and who did they talk to, an operator passing the buck. This was a multisystem fail, but there is no way to justify this young mans cold blooded murder, and I mean cold blooded literally based on the number of shots taken. As long as he was contained in his room, he posed little threat to anybody.

        • drkztan

until he decided to charge into a police officer with a knife in hand. Hell, scratch police officer, if anyone running into someone who is clearly trying to help them with a knife in hand gets shot, trust me law will protect the shooter under self defense.

          • Waldetto

He could never stab anyone through the door, picking the lock and forcing the door open and rushing into a small room with a gun gave the victim the right to kill his aggressor! The police was the aggressor, NOT the victim! It is obvious the cop just wanted another kill to get off on for the day, that’s what psychopaths do!

          • drkztan

the 10+ minutes of tape leading up to when the guy is shot disproves this. The video in this page is not complete, look up the larger version, they were there for a lot of time. The folks over at /r/protectandserve can give you a clearer view on how it all happened.

  • Maj. William Martin

Daily American’s will understand how life and death is in Gaza. US Law Enforcement is being solely trained by Israeli IDF Forces under the GILEE and CIS programs. Where they in their trips to Israel are taken to Gaza to be shown TERRORIST’S or 101% Civilian’s.

  • Paul Kim

Equal force to equal force, no matter how “dangerous” a subject is. That should be the law everywhere. Firemen would have handled that situation 100% better, cops only know how to destroy, not to save. See how there is no aid rendered to the subject afterward? Yeah…

    • Xuncu Morton

I see how you ignore the three minutes before. Plus, whatever was happening before the *clip* of footage. And before that, whatever happened before the camera was rolling.

      • Charles

Irrelevant. The cop didn’t have to fire when he did. He was under no threat when he pulled the trigger.

        • Gnemesis

Bullshit. It would appear that you have never had formal firearms training, or if you did, you weren’t paying attention.

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tueller_Drill

          • Charles

I disagree, the cop had a gun the guy had a knife. He wasn’t that close when the cop decided to kill him. If that’s what they teach you in “federal firearms training” then they are teaching you to be chicken shit cowards and murderers

          • Gnemesis

Again, this has nothing to do specifically with federal firearms training. The Tueller Drill is doctrine in all combat firearms instruction. If you actually go look at the article I linked to above, you may understand what I am talking about. “He wasn’t that close” is all the comment I need to know you don’t know crap about actual combat firearms use.

          • Charles

I believe you. You think this was a “combat situation” and I believe that’s chicken shit. The cop didn’t have to murder this guy but the trigger happy murderer did anyway and you think it’s great. I expect state-indoctrinated authority worshippers to react to this situation exactly as you did.

          • Gnemesis

            Aaaand… into the killfile.

  • ChristCrusader

What’s with all that time when the officer was alone with the guy quietly laying in the bath tub, and then the cop backs out and the guy suddenly climbs out of the tub enraged.
Did the cop quietly coach him on how to suicide by cop?
Did the cop goad him into a rage?

  • Charles

These so-called professionals did not have to shoot him. These cops are trigger happy murderers. It is obvious that we now live in a police state and should act accordingly. Never talk to the police. If you own a business refuse to deal with them.

    • Xuncu Morton

      >Three minutes of tazer
      >Whatever and how long was going on *before* the footage plays
      >”CLEARLY THESE ARE TRIGGER HAPPY MURDERERS”

      • Gnemesis

Pretty clear that little was “going on” prior to the video being made, since the DOOR WAS STILL LOCKED when the video starts. THINK.

        • Xuncu Morton

Yeah, I’m thinking that doors aren’t installed locked, the guy wasn’t born in there, and that DOORS AREN’T SOUNDPROOF.

    • drkztan

“trigger happy murderers”. Law even protects civilians who shoot people who are a clear inmediate threat (hint: the guy was running at the policeman with a knife in his hand). Policemen are trained to respond to threats.

Bottomline: don’t run knife in hand into anyone with a gun. You will get shot, and law protects the shooter because you are the threat in that situation.

      • Charles

Look at it again. The guy was just getting out of the tub not charging. The officer was well back and under no immediate threat when he fired. Very amateurish cop. He should be fired and prosecuted.

      • Waldetto

The “Law” doesn’t protect civilians that bust into someones house unwelcomed, pick the lock to their door, push the door open, and rush inside with a gun drawn! The cops were the aggressor, if anyone should have been protected by the right of self defense, it would have been the murdered victim, NOT the gun wielding, threatening, breaking and entering, aggressors!

        • Gnemesis

Not “unwelcomed”. The family *called* the cops, they did not magically appear there out of thin air.

Understand that I am NO fan of modern police or the paramilitary tactics they employ. HOWEVER… after being called in by the family to deal with a mentally ill man armed with a knife, AFTER spending 5 minutes or so pleading with the guy to drop the weapon, and AFTER he came at the cop with a knife in hand, one wonders exactly what the cop should have done that would have mollified you. Allow the guy to put that knife in his chest?

          • Waldetto

They were obviously unwelcomed from the point of view of the kid in the bathroom, who had not committed any crime by the way! He had a knife, not a nuclear warhead! The LEO’s have body armor, superior strength and training, there was very little chance of either of them getting anything more than a scratch from this kid. If they are so scared of kids they are in the wrong job!

“…one wonders exactly what the cop should have done that would have mollified you.”
            1. Not forced open the door.
            2. Contacted someone with experience dealing with mental patients, or approached the kid with a sympathetic, understanding, nonthreatening, nonviolent, tone of voice, to prevent him from getting defensive!
            3. Used the door as a shield against the knife and closed it.
            4. Used a tazer or other less than lethal device.
            5. Once in, while the victim was on his back in the tub, they could have easily wrapped up the hand with knife in shower curtain, and subdued this child like any real man would have.
            6. Treat women, the weak, elderly, and disabled with a modicum of respect or dignity!
And that’s just a SHORT list! Which of those is unreasonable? Do you really want cops just killing everyone that fails to comply within 2 minutes?

          • DAZMAN

A lot of body armor doesn’t stop thrusts from edged weapons(does help against slashes but not thrusts)….look it up b4 you sound more retarded than you already do

          • drkztan

            >point 3

please do watch the larger version of the video. They spend time doing this and it gets them nothing

            >point 6

did you even watch the video on this site? they use 3 or 4 tazers, which bring me to

            >The LEO’s have body armor, superior strength

you have no idea how strong a mentally ill patient can be. People in the midst of a psychotic episode can be as strong as 5-10 strong men, because the mental “locks” preventing you to overuse your own muscles to prevent damage to your body fail. Patients have been known to break their own ligaments from a punch while in a episode.

            >within 2 minutes
the largest video of this out there is roughly 20 mins in lenght. The tape starts at an advanced state of the “siege”, the cops where there for at least 2 hours.

  • Xuncu Morton

Dude was slashing his own throat; 2:16 you can see he’s already bleeding; I’d prolly be panicking a bit if that was right in front of me, as well, nevermind at the end.

  • Xuncu Morton

Now; why did the family have a camera aimed at a bathroom in the first place?

    • liberty belle

  • Put This In Your Crack Pipe

The no-nonsense bottom line here people is that no sane person really cares what you think.

I don’t care if you think this is a democracy, because it’s not. I don’t care if you think Obama is eligible to be President, because he’s not. I don’t care if you think 9/11 was perpetrated by 19 hijackers with box cutters – the truth is I don’t care what you think or what you believe, all I care about are the facts.

The only thing important here is whether this was a lawful shooting in the eyes of an unbiased and legitimate governing body of people who respect their oaths of office and abide by the rule of law.

This was an unlawful shooting – in fact a murder – but the fact that we now live in a militarized police state means that justice will never be served and it’s the person you look at in the mirror each day who is responsible.

Keep your opinions to yourself. No sane person really cares what some of you morons think. All that’s important are the facts and the facts say that this is a murder.

    • drkztan

Insane or not, if you run with a knife in your hand to a police officer you are going to get shot. This is murderous intent, and even if you are not a police officer you can perfectly justify shooting someone who is running at you with a knife in his hand, clearly meant to harm you.

I just love it when people with no prior knowledge of the law criticize the police’s actions.

      • Waldetto

The only murderous intent belonged to the thugs picking the lock, pressing into this man’s private bathroom with guns drawn! You are wrongly taking up for the outright aggressors who bust in on someone with guns drawn! There was a right to self defense, but it belonged to the victim, not the aggressive, murderous, thugs. By your faulty logic, if I busted into your house, kicked in your bathroom door while you were shaving, I could “legally” state that I felt threatened because you waved a razor in my direction and shoot you in cold blood, see how stupid you really are now?

        • DAZMAN

First of all the police were CALLED to his home by his family bc he was trying to kill himself they just didn’t bust into his house to attack and kill him….Dude there is PLENTY of unjustifiable killings and assaults by police that u can justly rant about but this isn’t really one of them…P.S. your last statement makes u really look like a dumbass (or stupid as u called the other guy) just so u know…granted I hate that the man died and feel sorry for his family, but like someone else said if someone comes at me with a knife they are getting shot and unless the cop is an excellent shot shooting his legs isn’t as easy as u might think and a lot if not most cops aren’t excellent shots! Hell a lot of the cops down here would have shot him though the door as soon as they saw the knife where as this guy called for a taser and had him tased several times in order to get him to drop the knife and even entered the bathroom and tried talking to him to get him to drop the knife….https://www.facebook.com/libertygirlrachel/photos/a.467056609995092.113551.463148250385928/717420754958675/?type=1&relevant_count=1 http://bit.ly/1gGGJOr http://bit.ly/1iMRgbe here is somethings u can rant or be upset about!!!!! if you did and charged at me with a knife in hand, and you got shot, it would fall under self-defense.

Also you forgot to add the part where I would have been outside of the bathroom, as a police officer, asking you to drop the knife for at least one hour.

It came to no surprise to the man in the bathroom, the policemen where there talking for a long, long time asking him to drop his knife.

  • grassy knoll

    Pigs on Parade.

  • liberty belle

since when do you ‘talk somebody down’ by screaming at them at the top of your lungs. Someone is training these cops to act this way, I dont think they are doing it on their own.

  • faustinaagatha

My heart goes out to this poor family. They tried to call for help NOT the cops; and they thug cops anyway.

  • Waldetto

Well done officers! Another suicide was prevented! I think they may have even discovered the cure for depression!

    • drkztan

I’m loving how people with zero understanding of how police officers work keep on trying to make them look like the bad guys. If you come running with a knife to a police officier, insane, depressed or whatever you want or not, you are going to get a couple of bullets in your body.

      • Alycia

A couple bullets!?! 11 is not just a couple bullets. I think after he dropped, putting the gun on stand by would have sufficed.

        • drkztan

You’d be surprised at how resilient mentally ill people can be to bullets.

      • Waldetto

“I’m loving how people with zero understanding of how police officers work keep on trying to make them look like the bad guys.”
We know “how they work”, they “work” like murderous, violent, trigger happy, thugs, at least many of them do, and it seem that most of the others cover up for those that are psychopaths. Just because one can manufacture a legal excuse to murder someone doesn’t make that murder moral. I think you are really upset with the fact that more and more people ARE beginning to understand just how police officers “work”! Just like the mafia, except more violent towards the elderly, weak, disabled, women, and mentally challenged!

  • Julia

The officers had no other option. The shooting officer pleaded with him to drop the knife. The dude was able to get up and step out of the tub while being tased. If you know anything about being tased you’ll know that it stops all body functions. When it doesn’t it usually means that the brain isn’t sending messages to the body saying that it’s painful. I feel for the family, it’s sad to lose a family member, especially that violently while you’re in the other room. I find to be absolutely 100% not a race issue. He just happened to be black and the officer happened to be white. Officer told him over 50 times to drop the knife.

And why were the family recording?

    • US Army (retired)

Why not a shot to the leg or legs? That would have rendered him incapable of moving in a sudden speedy fashion. My father was a policeman and he would have exactly that and then found a way to make him drop the knife even if he had to break his arm. Deadly force is a last resort. DO NOT tell me he had NO other choice. That is a load of BS!

    • Jeff Elman

      ALWAYS film the police, period.

  • Chris B

Couple? the officer fires 10 more shots to the head after the threat was
eliminated with the first shot to the head, I mention head not the
body, where police are trained to fire at center mass, not head shots
    minus SWAT snipers.

Not to mention Police are trained to disarm and control an individual/Situation, lethal fire is supposed to be a absolute last resort when all other options are off the table and serious threat to themselves or others lives, which this department did not even bother with, they went to immediate lethal force.

They had other options to stop this and choose not to use those resources.

This at least manslaughter, and possibly murder.

    • Eno King Tuk Etuknwa

      you are right

  • Brian Hawkins

Try to be fair, guys. I hate police brutality as much as the next guy, but there isn’t any here. Don’t let your hatred of injustice turn into blind rage against every police officer. This is not their proudest moment, for sure, but seriously, what else were supposed to do? They tried talking to him, gently even, but he steadfastly refused to cooperate. They tried tasing, and it was ineffective. When options are running out and a crazy man lunges at me with a knife, I would shoot too. It is a tragic outcome, no one will dispute that, but seriously, what else were they supposed to do at that point? Stand there and take a knife to the chest?

    • Eno King Tuk Etuknwa

this is not a criminal we are talking about here, this is a mentally ill person and 11 shots!!!??? i can understand one shot but 11????? come on open your eyes

      • Brian Hawkins

If someone lunges at me with a knife, my first priority is to stop the threat. If he fired one shot and killed him you’d be happier? Or fired one shot and take a knife to the chest? Still no answer to my question, what else were they supposed to do at that point?

        • casterofpeals

they should not have let it get to that point. simply back off. but if they must insist on getting to that point, do as they, and every CHL holder in america is trained, and STOP SHOOTING ONCE THE TARGET FALLS. this video would have landed any CHL holder in prison, as it should, for excessive force.

          • James Nimmons

he wasn’t a target asshole.. he was a mentally ill man… who shoulda been left in the goddamned bathroom… the officer went there looking for a fight..the officer is an asshole who deserves the same fate..because he’s dangerous…just as dangerous as a man with a knife and just as crazy because he believes he is justified in acting this way..so by the same logic you assholes post here we should find this officer and kill him…..

          • casterofpeals

who are you talking to? i agree, he’s not a target. but speaking from a training perspective, whatever you are going to shoot is the target, AND YOU STOP SHOOTING WHEN IT’S DOWN. my point is, that if this cop wants to say shooting at a person with a knife is justified, it is still unjustified to keep shooting once the person goes down!

          • James Nimmons

From a training perspective he should have stayed out of the bathroom. Plain and simple. Why you focus on the excess after the first bullet is mysterious..but its also pointless and the very first “target dropping ” bullet shouldnt have been fired. i coulda resolved that situation with a tazer or a baton..possibly bare handed. The officer is a coward. And you come off as pretty cold yourself. Your gripe is that he shoulda only fired once…he shouldnt have fired at all! .. I hope someone you know becomes a target so you can feel what its like to hear a human being referred to as such to maybe bring this into context for you. A human being who could have been pacified without death was killed..by a coward. The cowards only sin in your eyes is that he used too many bullets. think about that

          • casterofpeals

yes, i understand he’s not a target. i’m saying that in spite of how wrong it is, EVEN IF THE COP WANTS TO CLAIM THE RIGHT TO SHOOT IN DEFENSE, ANY MORE THAN ONE BULLET IS STILL EXCESSIVE. by police training, a knife is as lethal as a gun and is treated as such, yes that’s stupid, and yes i would have handled this with pepper spray/tazer, but even in their current justifications, this was overkill! that’s all i’m saying. not only is their justification wrong, but even in that, their actions exceeded their justifications. peace

1:40-1:44 – “I do not want to shoot you.”
3:30-3:32 – “I’m trying to help you. Left the knife go.”
3:58-4:01 – “Let it go. I want to help you.”
1:54-4:20(1st shot fired) – “Drop the knife/let it go” was used by the officer approximately 50 times.

Sure sounds like a trigger happy “pig” to me.

    • FYI

      You are a nutjob.

    • casterofpeals

trying to talk to someone in a fit of rage, who’s got mental issues, is like trying to talk to a dog–as should be plainly scene in the video. he could have backed off and de-escalated the situation as it was before he entered the house. yes, that many shots once he falls is trigger happy. old school cops would be disgusted with today’s police

      • James Nimmons

todays police are childish pussies who want the respect but not to work for it like real cops used to.

  • R.A christian

So they stopped his suicide by assisting him 11x. I don’t know if he tripped or not but why is this cop so useless at talking to someone with mental problems but so useful with his gun? Telling tale of the state of affairs… If this happened in my family cops would not be called as some do not value human life… Not a risk I’m willing to take, if I couldn’t defuse the situation he would have committed suicide without the cop releasing his aggression on him 11x to the head? Stop the threat not the person, tazer didn’t work? Shoot his legs, part of your pathetic job is to protect people not just corporations… Yes high stress, yes tense situation… Why escalate the situation by screaming at him? How could I trust the cop I called in to help wasn’t trained as poorly as this one? U can’t because most are over aggressive meat heads in my experience.

    • James Nimmons

but its zoo hard to shoot his legs in the hallway didn’t you read that? Another problem i have is that cops today are pussies whining about this stressful job they sought out themselves…they coulda been anything else..you KNOW the jobs is dangerous..which is why it used to be one that would merit the man that did it HONOR…but if you act like this..there is no honor and you will not get the respect you want.. Im saying this for ay asshole cops reading this who think they deserve respect for being afraid to do the job of a brave man… yet doing it anyway and badly..

  • Rework Oh Ryan

There are a litany of atrocious police actions of late (James Boyd, the anal probes in NM, the ride side body cavity searches, etc), but this, in my opinion, was justified.

  • TFisher45

The officer gave him every possible opportunity to drop the knife over several minutes. He was in a hallway outside the locked door, so the space was somewhat confined with not a lot of room to get out of the way. This is relevant because when the man got up and charged him holding the knife, the fact that the officer was in a hallway made it more dangerous because of the difficulty trying to maneuver and get out of the way in that narrow corridor. There was no time to try to carefully aim for an arm or leg as the man was running toward him. I don’t know if you realize how difficult it is to aim accurately with a pistol, but I can assure you, it is VERY difficult. I have a 9mm semi-automatic that I have practiced with at a shooting range; it was a challenge just to hit the target. I was truly shocked at how difficult it was to be accurate; unlike a rifle with a scope (with which you can be very accurate). So to attempt hitting an arm or leg of a person running toward you would be difficult at best, with very little time, because he’s starting from 10 feet away. If you missed the arm/leg, he would close that 10′ gap in a second and be on you with a knife. Add the mental instability and the danger is increased even more because you can neither reason with him nor predict his behavior. There really were only two choices; either shoot him, or (assuming you are a proficient martial artist) drop your gun and a try a Steven Seagal Aikido technique you’ve seen in a movie and hope it works, or you’re dead.

    • Eno King Tuk Etuknwa

naw but it still dosent explain shooting the man 11 times while hes already dead

    • DAZMAN

I agree with TFisher45 even though 11 rounds is to say the least a bit much! The cop did try several times to get the man to drop the knife and kept getting him tazed to get him to drop it…I’ve seen REAL trigger happy police and this cop isn’t one of them other then the number of times he fired. He was justified in my opinion and I’m FAR from pro-cop!

      • Jetboy

again.. mental breakdown.. multiple polite requests aren’t going to work. so use another tactic he’s SUICIDAL not HOMiCIDAL… god damn

    • marvbbd

If someone is in the middle of a psychological breakdown there is no way a reasonable person would expect them to comprehend and comply with a command of put down the knife with a rational thought process. For that very reason the police should have backed off and called in someone who is trained to deal with people who are mentally ill.

    • casterofpeals

i know a great alternative, back up. if he gets agitated, back up further. he’s psychotic. “let’s keep a guy from killing himself by killing him ourselves.” public school system at work.

    • jetboy

its harder to aim when you open the door like a dumbs on a suicidal man. The officer opened that door.. the officer escalated the situation…the officer is a murderer. sorry i know it was difficult for him to not be one when he triggered the situation himself…he knew that too which is why he did it. He wanted to shoot someone.

  • pgalicki

family didn’t even turn down the tv or radio or whatever that noise was…..jeez

    • hh

The guy in the bathroom had a radio on the officer turned it off

  • Yeah right

Looked to me like he was being tazed and tried getting out of the tub. He was shot 11 times what was the point in messing with him while on the ground and no way he was checking for a pulse he was obviously moving something around. Tampering with a crime scene is illegal isn’t it? Guess it doesn’t matter if your covering your ass.

    • Draken

There is no way that he could have been trying to get out of the tub while being tasered. That means either the contacts got pulled out, or the taser ran out of energy. The voltage from a taser is enough to lock your muscles and prevent you from moving. That is typically why most people fall to the ground when being tasered, and why you heard the officer yelling for another taser as the victim stood.

The truth is that these types of situations are handled by good cops every-single-day in America without a weapon being drawn, much less dumping 11 rounds into the head of a man who was not an imminent threat to others and had not committed any crime whatsoever.

If you want psychopath cops, running around empting their clips into innocent people for no reason, then just keep supporting the actions of sickos like this. I know most of you don’t, the ones on this thread who are saying it was justified are criminals.

  • Gutta League

Ok I’m not a friend of the cops but I have to say that there where a few mistakes and it was not all on the cops. 1ST when the police saw the the knife they could have backed off I mean the man was mental and i a bathroom by himself. Could have tasted his ass again. but in the police deffence he was told to put the knife down and he charged the police and yes everyone knows if you charge a police officer with a weapon in your hand they will kill you. I think my biggest problem was over kill as far as how many times the officer fired the gun. I mean the man went down after the 1st shot. I
mean even in the army they tell you to shot in burst 3 shoots center mass

  • Renaissance_nerd

I’m sorry even if you thought the man was a threat eleven rounds is excessive, especially after about one and a half the man fell down. Police are trained that if they need to use lethal force they are to do it in three round bursts. This officer just bullet hosed a poor mentally ill man. The officer should face criminal charges for flagrantly discharging his weapon and homicide, he intended to kill this man that is very clear eleven rounds later.

  • Chris B

People, the initial shot is arguably a justifiable action, even though shot to the head instead of the chest/limb, is very suspicious,

What cannot be argued at all by anyone that’s sane is that the following 10 shot to the head which were not justifiable and easily could have been the fatal wound, which then casts overwhelming doubt on the officers original intentions.

Police, Miltiary operations DO NOT instruct you to fire your weapon at a person head, it is always to shoot center mass, minus SWAT/Military snipers.

  • Jeff Elman

One tear gas canister could of saved a life.

    • jetboy

or a tranq dart.. but .. when some monsters want to kill someone….

    • Billoyd Garrison

Or set the house a fire and burned him up–remember that’s what they used at Waco.

  • hh

First of all he is mentally unstable other measures should have been taken first an at 4:20 he was still being tased as he tried to stand up he didn’t charge his bodily is turned an he fell out of the tub he was shot before his foot even came out an hit the floor watch it over an over an over every angle I get needing to shot for fear of safety an what not but 11 is much esp after the first shot he hit the floor an didn’t get up let alone why his head? Police are trained to follow a very rigorous routine that was not routine

  • Jestaten D’obvious

The family was so concerned about helping their loved one, they found time to strategically place a camera, and ensure the event was captured, thus allowing all of us to Monday-morning quarterback the actions of the Cops. Can anyone say Set-up & Pay Day…

    • jetboy

lets see you’re being asked to call the cops when you don’t want to and you KNOW cops act like this…so its CYA . You don’t have to set up the police..theyre stupid enough to do this themselves.

  • jetboy

Meds? hehehe Didn’t you know Nazis don’t value mental disabilities? get used to goose-stepping people.. they are going to ask you to sooner or later..you have masters and they hate you.

  • Billoyd Garrison

I’ve seen the video. I can see why the cops was upset, but that didn’t give him the right to murder this mentally ill person and that exactly what he did. He shot him like six times after he hit the ground and unloaded the whole clip in him. What can that be called but murder? Police policy is to shoot to kill, it is not however, keep shooting until they are dead even after they have been subdued.
