Sec. of State John Kerry Wrong About Syrian Weapons Claim

The claims made by Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday have been reported by many media outlets. Virtually none though are challenging the claims made by Sec. Kerry to the nation. Claims that are false.

Kerry, gave prepared remarks on Monday, explaining why the Obama Administration believes they must intervene in Syria. Kerry referenced the use of chemical weapons calling the use “a moral obscenity”, “inexcusable” and “undeniable”.

“What we saw in Syria last week should shock the conscience of the world. It defies any code of morality. Let me be clear: The indiscriminate slaughter of civilians, the killing of women and children and innocent bystanders, by chemical weapons is a moral obscenity. By any standard it is inexcusable, and despite the excuses and equivocations that some have manufactured, it is undeniable.” said Sec. of State Kerry

The Secretary of State went on to say “I also want to underscore that while investigators are gathering additional evidence on the ground, our understanding of what has already happened in Syria is grounded in facts informed by conscience and guided by common sense.”

So to be clear, Sec. Kerry says that even though U.N. investigators had only been on the scene less than 24 hours, the Administration’s collective mind has been made up. Chemical weapons were used. What’s more, the use of those weapons, Kerry says can be traced back only to the Syrian government.

“Moreover, we know that the Syrian regime maintains custody of these chemical weapons. We know that the Syrian regime has the capacity to do this with rockets. We know that the regime has been determined to clear the opposition from those very places where the attacks took place. And with our own eyes, we have all of us become witnesses.

We have additional information about this attack, and that information is being compiled and reviewed together with our partners, and we will provide that information in the days ahead.”

As we reported yesterday, however the inference that only Syria possesses chemical weapons is flatly untrue. In May of this year, Turkish military seized 2kg of sarin from “rebel” fighters from al Nusra Front. As we have extensively reported, al Nusra is the largest, best funded and most organized opposition force to the Assad regime. On May 30, 2013 when Turkish security forces arrested those 12 members of al Nusra Front, they found not only the 2kgs of sarin but those authorities went on to say that the sarin was going to be used in a bomb.

In Secretary of State Kerry’s address on Monday, he pointed out that the “evidence” against the Syrian government included YouTube videos he had watched of the victims. Too bad while scanning YouTube for evidence Sec. Kerry didn’t do a simple Google search of the words “al Nusra Front sarin gas”. Had he done so, he would have known that his claims of only the Syrian government possessing chemical weapons is not only untrue but easily disproved.

That however, didn’t seem to be of much concern considering that no major media have pointed out this fact despite such incredible claims from the Secretary of State. Rather than simply repeat over and over the claims by Kerry to the American people, why aren’t media fact checking him?

Great article Ben! If you want to find the truth, just look at the media outlets agreeing w/ Kerry. For example, on the front page of the KC Star this morning there is an article agreeing with Kerry.

Amazing how you rightwing nutjobs can sit in front of your computers all day thinking Google is proof that you know something when you don’t. The funny thing is that if this were the Bush admin (like Iraq), you’d be eaten up Powell or Rice’s words and getting ready to type “Support the troops.” Meanwhile, you don’t seem to understand anything about the Turks. Oh, the evil Democrat is lying, but the Turks! The Turks are telling the truth! The Turks will use any excuse to crackdown on anyone who opposes the Erdogen regime.

Bottom line – you don’t have a security clearance, and I doubt you even know any Syrians, so you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.

    • followiceland

hmmm, didn you read the article?? the “left-wing-nut-jobs” do the same aparently, exept this nut-job is in charge of a huuuge agency, and he just replaced google for you-tube as evidence-of-fact!! wake-up idiot, left/right is utter bull!!

      • ItPainesMeToSayThis

I’ve noticed a trend of libertarianism, not support for republican policies. Stop assuming everyone sees only red or blue like you. Some analyze and decide for themselves if it’s wrong, no matter who is doing it.

        • David Peterson

That’s just it though — these fools are stuck in the left/right paradigm. This comment from BoJ is lost in swirl of his own twisted, logic. He claims the article is ‘right wing’, when in realiaty he should be turning on the policies of Obama just like he did with Bush, since they are THE SAME POLICIES, run by the largest banks in the world!

Also he’s clearly never listened to the clips of Ben Swann & is just a troll.

that was the point i was making right/left, red/blue, doesnt matter, just the facts! ans ps im from UK :/

      FACTS on SYRIA:

There is absolutely no evidence or confirmation that the Assad government carried out the alleged chemical attack.
United Nations weapons inspectors are in Syria at the direct REQUEST of the Syrian government to prove that they have not used chemical weapons. The attack took place a mere ten miles away from the inspection team, on the very day they arrived.
Carla Del Ponte, a United Nations Human Rights investigator, has stated that the Syrian government has not used chemical weapons but the rebels have.
In May, 12 members of the Syrian rebel forces were arrested in Turkey. The rebels possessed 4.5 pounds of Sarin, the neurotoxin gas alleged to have been used in the recent attack.
In January, the “Daily Mail”, a prominent British newspaper, reported that the Syrian rebels were planning a chemical attack which they would blame on the Syrian government in order to justify U.S. intervention. The report was based on leaked emails from military contractors.
The Syrian rebels are receiving direct weapons and funding from the United States, despite their record of atrocities including rape, murder, and torture. The U.N. has reported that they are actively recruiting young children, in addition to other violations of international law.
The Assad government has fully cooperated with the weapons inspection teams.
Members of the United Nations inspection team have openly stated their doubts about the chemical attack. Dr. Ake Sellstrom, the leader of the team, called the reports of the alleged attack “suspicious”.
Reports on the attack are extremely inconsistent. Some reports said over 1,300 were killed. Other reports have said less than 200. Still other reports say over 350. The numbers are unclear and totally unsubstantiated.
The report being circulated by “Doctors Without Borders” is not based on their own information, but based on reports they received from a Syrian rebel group by their own admission.
Videos of the alleged attack were posted on the internet by allies of the Syrian rebels, BEFORE the attack took place.
The credibility of the video of the alleged chemical attack is being widely questioned by chemical weapons experts. The victims are not displaying the proper symptoms of having been struck by a Sarin nerve gas. The people shown treating them are not wearing proper equipment.
The U.S. is currently urging the U.N. weapons inspection team to halt its work. The U.N. weapons inspectors insist that they must be allowed to continue their investigations and to determine actual facts.

Despite all of this confusion and inconsistency in the claims about this alleged attack, the U.S. government, along with its corporate allies in Britain and France are openly pushing for an attack on Syria.
We have seen all this before:

The Spanish-American War was justified with an alleged attack on the U.S.S. Maine. In reality, the ship was sunk by an internal explosion.
The U.S. entrance into World War I was justified with the “Zimmerman Telegram”, claiming Germans were plotting to invade the U.S. with Mexico. The telegram was later proven to be a fraud.
The Vietnam War was justified with the “Gulf of Tonkin”incident claiming Vietnam had attacked a U.S. ship. It was later proved that the alleged attack never actually took place.
In 1983, the U.S. invasion of Grenada was based on allegations that the government was planning to murder U.S. medical students. This was proven to be complete fiction.
In 1989, the U.S. overthrow of the government of Panama was based on false allegations about drugs and attacks on U.S. troops.
The U.S./NATO bombing of Yugoslavia was justified with reports of with unsubstantiated reports of genocide in Serbia. A great number of these reports have been totally discredited.
The Gulf War of 1991 was justified with false reports of Iraqi War crimes in Kuwait. The “babies thrown from incubators” stories that filled the TV news, were proven to be totally false.
In 1991, the U.S. used satellite photos to claim that Iraq was amassing soldiers to invade Saudi Arabia. The photos were proven later to have been complete forgeries.
The U.S. invasion and occupation of Afghanistan was justified in the name of fighting a “war on terror” after Sept.11. None of the people who allegedly carried out the 9/11 attacks had any connections with Afghanistan or its government.
The U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 was based on reports of “weapons of mass destruction” and “chemical and biological weapons.” After the U.S. invaded, killing thousands of innocent people, it was proven that Iraq never had any such weapons.
The U.S. intervention in Libya was justified with claims of genocide and rape. Now that the Libyan government has been overthrown and thousands innocent Libyans killed, many of these reports have also been thoroughly discredited.

The following linked article in late May says the Turkish newspaper claims of capturing 2 kg. (4+ pounds) of sarin were false and that half of the 12 apprehended were released while the other 6 were still being questioned and their affiliation with al-Nursa was not confirmed by authorities (in response to media rumors). http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/05/30/us-syria-crisis-turkey-idUSBRE94T0YO20130530 Is this Reuters report truthful? Where are any follow-up reports on this after May 31st? Of course the truth matters but what the truth is … is not clear. Will US leadership and leadership of other free nations involved in planning a response to the chemical WMD attack persuade their respective citizens of proof of responsibility for the attack … that can be reasonably defended? (Or maybe the head of the NSA can come out and assure us to trust his assurances.) What are free nations doing to support FSA to reassert itself as the leading opposition in Syria (and also stop al-Nursa)? While 300+ killed and over 1,0000 injured Syrians from a chemical WMD attack is an outrage-against-humanity, why has it not been an outrage-against-humanity that over 100,000 Syrians have been killed over the last 2 years? Will the US Congress authorize US military action or will the US Congress continue in it’s post-Constitutional America mode?

    • Slim_Strontem

“Will the US Congress authorize US military action THEREIN continuing the post-Constitutional America mode?” … Apart from the lack of principles remaining in this statement, the correction is important, so far as it goes. They cannot, constitutionally, “authorize” military action, but they (and only they, except in exigent circumstances) can ORDER it–Via a declaration of war or a letter of marque. There is no other legal means. The bitch is, that then THEY are fully accountable–And THAT is why they have let the executive run away with their powers. Correction: With OUR powers which we have placed in THEM.

      • zenloki

John. Once you know who owns Reuters and the NYT. Both of which along with the AP are forever spreading pro Israel bits of counter double speak. It does not surprise me to hear that they would find ways to nullify events that are not flattering to Israel. Experience has shown me over time that anytime I read a news blurb that comes across condoning or justifying something that BIBI and associates do in the occupied lands. 95 percent of the time you will find no comment boxes like this one below them. Hey, John Kerry, did you forget about the U.S. Constitution? To send troops into another country is an act of war, is it not? That takes an act of congress, does it not? Not only that I’m afraid that that will piss off the Russians and may start a major conflagration, re: war. Didn’t you have enough of that in Vietnam? I sure did. I can’t see throwing away our young men and women’s lives and our, what’s left of it, our national treasure for the sake of Israel. Let them do their own dirty work.

John Kerry is a Moral Obscenity!

  • JSeawright1967

Ben, please also comment on what Carla Del Ponte (of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria) said back in the month of May that there was concrete evidence linking chemical weapons use to the rebels and not the Assad regime. It’s an important point that often get’s swept under the rug by mainstream media.

  • Tom223

Evidently if Al-Quaeda kills children with US supplied bullets it’s moral but killing those same children with chemicals is immoral. Well, I’m glad I got that straight. Thanks John Kerry for being America’s moral compass.

  • Marc

    To add to this sickness:

I get a newsletter from Democrats.com. I’m a Libertarian, but I like to know what the other side is thinking and doing.

They are telling their readers that Obama doesn’t want to go into Syria, and:

“The neocon war criminals who took the U.S. into an illegal and disastrous war in Iraq are back – and demanding a Syria War.”

They are telling their readers to petition congress to not fund this war, and they even have a petition going.

So, if Obama goes to war in Syria, these folks will believe that it wasn’t Obama’s doing … but that he was forced into it by the Republicans.

    This is surreal.

    • JK474

Obama jumped into the Libyan civil war without any congressional authorization at all. That in itself should have been sufficient grounds to impeach him. He seems just as willing as George Bush to do the bidding of the neocons. Yet the left keeps making excuses for him, the same ones who hated George W. Bush’s foreign policy.

    • usaok59

Ben. It should also be pointed out that there are other players in this trainwreck looking for a place to happen. While most of the rest of the world knows the score. Many Americans do not. The fact is. The country that benefits most from continued bloodshed in the middle east was left out of Kerry’s propaganda gibberish. That being the country that in the last two months has flown over Syrian land with impunity and launched no less than two rocket attack against Assad’s Military infrastructure using the terrorist boogeyman as usual for the quote pre-emptive acts of war against a neighbouring country. I realise pointing out the facts where Netanyahu and Thugs behaviour is concerned is dangerous to anybody that is critical of Israel’s behaviour over the past 65 years. Until somebody with exposure points that out to the sheeple. Which mainstream will not do. The death and mayhem will go unchecked until some country the US runs rough shod over pulls a rabbit out of the hat and hits one of our cities with a suitcase nuke or bio bomb. For any of you mainstream media types that happen to read this comment. Are you comfortable with the reflection you get back from the mirror?

  • Andrew Servant

In a criminal investigation, one of the first questions asked is “Who would profit?” Why is no one asking how in the world could Assad profit from doing such a stupid thing as gassing innocents, when he knows very well the U.S. and others are just waiting for him to do something like that so they can have a green light to move in. Is Kerry and idiot? This is the exact same scenario as they used against Saddam Hussein. The U.S. has its agenda, and they play the news to get their excuse to do what they have planned all along.

  • DWornock

John Kerry knows he is lying. Obama knows he is lying and approves of his lies. All of the main-stream media big wigs knows Kerry is lying and support his lies. Most of the world knows Kerry is lying and Most of the world knows that the USA manufactured the chemical weapons and can be traced backed to the USA.
Also, the USA gave the chemical weapons to the rebels and the USA secretly used the chemical weapons against the Syrians and blamed the Syrian government.
However, the vast majority of the American people will believe or at least accept the lies of John Kerry. It is not that they are too stupid to know better; it is because they refuse to accept the truth because believing the lies feels better. In any event, there is nothing we, the American people, can do about it. And, most Americans know that if they tried to do anything, they would go to prison or be shot. And, it is impossible to vote out the criminals because the elections are rigged or at least anyone that might make a difference is referred to as a kook and condemed 24/7 by the main-stream media.

They must get their war underway before the real evidence can be shown to the world – that NATO’s US, UK, France and Turkish-backed rebels in Syria are out of control, and have been dabbling with chemical weapons and killing civilians under the direction of western intelligence agencies and private military contracting firms operating in the region. Israel is also involved, in cooperation with the US. ~ Patrick Henningsen

I’m very much opposed to nuclear weapons and nuclear power but if Syria had 200 short range 5 kt nukes, 100 pointed at Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Turkey with the other 100 pointed towards Israel, I would imagine that all hostilities might end.

  • Sagebrush

Why do I think I’ve heard all this before? Oh yea, I remember now. George W’s Crew, Rumsfeld, Cheney. Rice, Wolfowitz and a misinformed Powell said Saddam had all kinds of WMD’s and was going to use them. Extensive searches have never found operational WMD’s anywhere in Iraq.

Seems like every time the puppet masters want the puppets to further the puppet master agenda, they have the puppets play the chicken little WMD card or pull some false flag B.S. so they can start a war. I wonder if the American People are ever going to learn from the previous mistakes they let their puppet leaders make and say no, you can’t start bombing these people for some geopolitical puppet master agenda.

    • Gardentoolnumber5

None of which would be possible without a complicit media. That is why they are pushing so hard for CISPA, SOPA… they don’t care about copyright or hackers, they need to control the message as they have with the legacy media.

Did you see the declassified CIA documents about the Iraqi chemical weapons program and use on the Iranians? The Iranians complained but little was done against S.H. The US gave Iraq logistical support so their CW would be more effective against the Iranians. Hussein justified his use of CW in Iraq as being acceptable to maintaining his regime. Of course the US turned a blind eye toward “our” guys (S.H.) chemical weapon use.

I’m talking about Waco and The unlawful actions of our government and the cover up. (They said they did it to protect the children) (Dont you want the government to protect you)

I live in a peaceful part of the Middle East and this is absolutely the best report I have seen by the US Media. The mainstream media seem to just blindly support the President right or wrong and may I say chiefly wrong. Vladimir Putin seems to have a better idea about what is going on.
