NYPD Twitter #myNYPD Campaign Goes Horribly Wrong

By: Samuel Eaton

New York City – The NYPD News tweeted earlier today that they wanted people to share their photos of themselves with NYPD. They asked people to use the hashtag #myNYPD. They hoped to have a lot of smiling faces showing the nice side of the NYPD. However, it did not take long before the feed filled up with images and videos of police brutality.

One of Luke Rudkowsi’s tweets showed a NYPD officer beating him with a baton.

Others posted pictures of the elderly man who was beat for jaywalking and other recent police brutality images.

Copwatch reminded us of the innocent people shot outside the Empire State building.

Complex Magazine shows us how the NYPD handles someone being detained.

Aside from the complete failure of the marketing campaign, the most surprising thing may be the sheer number of images and videos of NYPD police brutality there are.

Some of them officers in the video seem to swing their batons around like kids swinging sticks. Is that their skill-set? Their job in a riot? To hit as many people as possible? Is it like a game, highest count of hits or arrests wins the prize?

9/11, no matter if it was an external or inside job, created the justification for oppression and intrusion into the lives of citizens. Had we not ramped up our foreign adventurism to support our military-industrial complex post Cold War, we wouldn’t have gotten into the situation where we made ourselves a target and created a “solution” worse than the problem. Had OBL never existed, they would’ve had to invent him.

New York police are almost as bad as Denver cops where you can shot for holding soda can or a candlestick maybe even a butter knife, all true look it up.

No one who isn’t armed. Never understood why left-wingers only want police to have guns when they are among the groups most likely to suffer police oppression. Are they really so naive to believe that they can get more of the government that they seem to love without more thugs to enforce the will of govt.?

      • InkedLin

Those are two different bunches of left wingers. The ones who actually have political power want cops to have guns and the general populus disarmed, but typically have bodyguards, themselves.

Yeah, you are right, 99% of cops are looking out for their own safety over the safety of the public. Which is why they shoot to kill first before finding out whether they are even killing the criminal. About a week ago, LA cops shot and murdered a stabbing victim as he fled the scene, covered in his own blood.

I heard about the LA cops shooting…so sad.

It seems popular today to just automatically bash police, but single pictures don’t necessarily tell the whole story. Think about what the person in the photo might have done or was attempting to do to them as well, don’t just automatically assume the police were just beating somebody up for no reason at all. A lot of policeman are good people, they are first responder’s that actually serve to protect and often lay down their own lives in that duty

    • disqus_ttsVa86t7v

Patrol and control is not serving and protecting.

    • Jake Dixon

yea I wonder what that lady did to justify the cop yanking her hair as she is already handcuffed and being taken by two other officers…She probably “resisted”.

      • Paul Robinson

Or kicked him in the nuts. here are some truly bad cops. Most aren’t. And they have to deal with the bottom dregs of society, get punched beaten and spit on as part of their daily routine. You don’t have the courage or grace to be a cop, I’d guess.

        • Scott J Bonadonna

Paul, I concur. It takes a lot of courage to be a cop and a city cop needs a little more. The Truth is though, specifically an NYC officer gets $27K a year to start and most don’t last 5 years on the force. Most don’t have it yet they get the authority and gun while they figure that out. There is a blue code amongst all officers, and it doesn’t include any Rights of the citizens. I applaud and honor a good cop, sad thing is, there aren’t to many of them. There are a lot of thugs just doing their jobs.

          • billhook

The truth is a NYPD officer starts at $45K while in the academy.

        • Rob

No damn excuse either way even if she did kick him in the nuts. There is absolutely no excuse for this. Cops don’t get the retaliate. They have to suck it up and drive on. The perp gets to have all the fun, he can fight, he can do gross things and he can hurt your buddy. However, the instant he stops fighting, you have NO right to do ANYTHING to him. Your job isn’t to issue punishments, it is to enforce the law. Let the punishments come from the court.

Not that I particularly want a military coup to happen in this country, but it is a fact that MPs are better trained and more disciplined than their civilian counterparts, and a lot of this pseudo-military cruid we see around the country would be done away with if an MP was captain at every police precinct.

        • ocschwar

If I use retaliatory violence, I would do 10 years in prison. Even if she did kick him in the nuts, there is no excuse for that hair pulling you see there.

      • lollerball

No cop in the history of the universe has ever been bad. All citizens are criminals. Everyone, especially john, knows that. Every excuse for the cops is a valid one, none for the people. This guy is obviously a tool, everyone can see it. No need to waste your time, we all know it.

      • Dr. Common Sense

There are bad cops out there but there are good, decent cops out there as well. I’m not a cop but I’ve had my fair share of run ins with the law. I’ve been lucky that I’ve ran into the good ones more than the bad so far. Even got let go by one after getting pulled over doing 120 in a 25 racing some high school punk. But, we can’t lump all of the cops together as the enemy because I do know a few personally who see the same things wrong with America as the majority of the people who frequent this site, and they do hold themselves to a very high degree of moralility and condemn violence that could have been avoided had the officers used good sound diplomacy and reason.
That being said I have also been treated like absolute shit by a few as well. I’ve been roughed up and slammed around a bit in my day but I don’t wish any of them death though. I believe there should be justice for those who end up on the wrong side of a LE officers abuse and that way too often they do protect their own. But, to that I think we need to start raising voices and the people in the local areas in which these cases accur need to start acting locally. The biggest problem is not enough people really see what’s wrong with it, so we need to start acting locally and drawing attention to the cases of abuse that do happen and keep pushing until someone is held accountable. If internal affairs is bias and protecting some one who was in the wrong keep a group protesting in the parking lot and draw all the media coverage you can to the situation. If a police force starts getting too much bad publicity it will start weeding its garden in order to keep the garden alive.

      • Dr. Common Sense

Welcome to the police state folks – YOU wanted it. You refused to believe those silly 9/11 conspiracy theorist and you willingly bought the lies and cheered as we attacked countries that did nothing to us. Then you sat in silence as they passed the “Patriot Act” stripping YOU of all rights. But still you refused to wake up. In 2010 Obama signed the “NDAA” and began ASSASSINATING United States born citizens WITHOUT TRIAL (one was 16 yr. old Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, born in Denver, and a student at Colorado State). His crime? His father was a CIA asset who went rogue. But still you laugh and call this a conspiracy theory. And now the violence has come home and guess who the new target is… YOU.

Speak for yourself. You’re the one who blindingly accepts authority. That, my friend, is called “ignorance”. You don’t understand what I mean? Simple… have you ever answered the questions… “Why Cops?”, Is “Authority Just?”, Is “Violence ever justified?”. Your lack of critical thinking is ignorance. :)

      • someone who reads

No you sir are ignorant. My definition of someone who is ignorant is someone who reads an article on the internet(especially one based off of twitter) and assumes that everything in it is factual and correctly depicting what is actually going on.

Learn to do some research on your own before you call someone ignorant. Let me display some facts for you.

In 2013 over 100 Police officers were killed in the line of duty.
        https://www.odmp.org/search/year?year=2013

In 2013 approximately 300 people where killed by on-duty police officers.

I’m not try to say that every cop out there is a saint and they never commit police brutality, but these people put their lives on the line for our own safety. Maybe if the dumb shits of this country stopped acting like idiots and treated others how they would like to be treated the “pigs” may not feel like their life is on the line every time they get called for some drunken asshole starting shit, and maybe they would be much more respectful of our rights.

My friend you need to be the change you want to see in the world. Promote peace and nonviolence, and peace and non violence will follow you. Don’t get all pissy at the majority of cops that are legitimately out there to defend your rights, while such a minority are truly assholes.

        • Austin Miller

They don’t put their lives on the line for you and i. They put their lives on the line for a job that gives them power and a good paycheck. Are you saying it’s ok for the police to abuse people because they are use to some people acting like idiots?

          • someone who reads

No, in fact I said in my comment that I was not saying that, ya know what I’m saying.

Is it ok to punish all the good cops for a couple of bad apples. Maybe if the unions didn’t exist we would be able to fire the dicks.

          • Austin Miller

No it isn’t right to punish the good ones but good cops are very hard to find. The best way to deal with the bad apples would be to apply the same laws we go by to them. They don’t need to be fired then arrested for the many laws they have broken

          • Matt Schutter

Why arn’t the good cops outing the bad cops? No they just turn their heads when the bad cops do bad things. They are just as bad when they turn their heads. 99.9% of cops are on a power trip and don’t honor their oath they take to the constitution. Give a cop a copy of the state constitution or the us constitution and look at the hate in their eyes. 9 out 10 cops will flat out refuse to take. Stand up for your rights from cops and you woll be marked believe me.

          • billhook

One word – Serpico. Out fellow cops and they’ll send you into a situation with no back up where you get killed or badly injured.

        • Albert

Hey asshole. What about the PIGS that stop someone just walking down the street to Subway? The one that was arrested because he didnt have ID? You smell like a cop and I hope a gangbanger takes you out…OFF duty!

        • Not a fan of NY

I appreciate your quest for the facts and some rational thought but I would like to point out one thing. The polices’ job is not “for our own safety”. There have been court rulings that effectively declare that the police are not bound to “protect” citizens, only uphold the law. That is a huge distinction. Your safety is YOUR responsibility, simply put.
I agree, not all police are evil men. In rural areas you are probably more likely to have good, professional, respectful public servants. In cities it may be worse. There is a bad trend in America towards police brutality. Exponentially, it would not be long before the majority of “good” cops would be overshadowed by the minority of “bad” cops. I think the issue warrants attention but we do need to remain somewhat level headed.

          • someone who reads

It’s not a “quest for facts”. It’s called checking sources and not jumping to conclusions after a bunch of people, half of whom probably deserved it, posted pictures on TWITTER. I don’t understand why anyone thinks twitter is a reliable source, especially the mainstream media.

          • someone who reads

Albeit you are probably right about the upholding the law thing

        • Austin Miller

It’s a stressful job. if the cop wants to abuse the next person that asks him a question it’s ok

          • billhook

If that person blows the cop’s brains out afterward, that’s okay too.

        • Doug

except most cops aren’t out there to protect our rights. they’re all on a power trip and they have even said that looking out for peoples safety is not their responsibility, its up to the people to take care of themselves. And I agree with that, everyone should carry a firearm and take care of themselves. Police are no longer needed because just like our politicians they have forgotten what their job actually is. The only thing that police are supposed to do now is make the state money, which is why they have a quota to meet or they get reprimanded. If their job was still to protect and serve the people they wouldn’t have a quota to meet, which further proves my point that police are no longer needed its up to the people to take care of themselves and each other.

and to point out how ignorant cops are, when i was 17 which was right after 9/11 happened I got pulled over for having an air freshener hanging from my mirror which apparently obstructed my view. The cop told me to get out of the car and proceeded to ask me if I had any firearms or explosives in the car that I was selling to the taliban. I laughed and hes like oh you think that funny, my reply was I wasn’t laughing about that I was laughing at your ignorance and stupidity. To which he said he was going to arrest me for harassing a police officer. Im sorry but who was the one being harassed in that situation? And its sad to say that every year they just get worse and worse. Every cop has lost sight of their true job to the point where the citizens that used to respect them because they actually did protect and serve the people now hate them because all they do is harass the people that have done nothing wrong. Police officers are obsolete and are no longer necessary. Like I said even they have said that it is not their job to protect the people. Well if they say that than why are we continuing to pay for them to be around, why is our tax money going to pay for people whos job is just to pull people over and harass them just to make the state money even when they have done nothing wrong. We lost the need for them as soon and their sole purpose became just to make the state more money and not “to protect and serve”

        • K-Raw

There you go, that’s the truth. Well said.

Shit like this is why I have absolutely no problem laughing my ass off when I hear about a pig getting killed in the news..

    • Bernadette

I find no joy in added death and destruction. I hope we can all make it through our days safe, alive and as friends. (Yeah I know that’s much easier said than done.)

      • Doug

while i find no joy in added death, i dont feel bad for these corrupt officers that have no respect for their oath or the people which they are supposed to serve. Like i said its time for people to start taking care of themselves and each other, people need to start carrying a firearm and not rely on police for anything. They have proved that they only thing they are good for and harassing innocent people just because they can. They have no interest in protecting or serving the people

        • Bernadette

“They have proved that they only thing they are good for and harassing innocent people just because they can.”

That is a false statement and an exaggeration. And you know it. While I have had my own run-ins with @ssh*le cops, they aren’t all that way. I have met helpful and friendly cops that cared and I have some good friends that are good cops. And unfortunately, one that quit because he said he worked with too many racists and @ssh*les. Cops are people too and some are horrible people but not all of them.

As far as firearms go, I like to go shooting but I choose not to carry one I feel no need. So far I have been able to handle myself just fine without one.

          • Toaster Crisp

Good for you. But who are you to tell anyone else they cannot carry firearms for self defense?

          • Bernadette

I’m not. When did I say that? Who are you to imply I ever made such a statement?

    • fakename

Anyone who laughs their ass off when a police officer gets killed is a perfect example of someone who didn’t graduate high school.

      • billhook

Or someone who is tired of the police state and its thugs.

      • Adolph Schumer

I bet people like you supported the Nazis in Germany too! If they didn’t graduate high school they wouldn’t be laughing at cops being killed they would become cops.

HA HA HA! Government thugs and their badge licking law and order bootlickers deserve all thats coming to them and more.

  • Doug

Police are no longer needed. People need to start defending themselves and looking out for themselves and eachother. All police forces have taken their authority too far and should not be able to wear a badge that says “to protect and serve” because they only protect each other so they can continue to do whatever they want and they only serve the government, not the people. Its time for people to take a stand for their rights against the police and the corrupt government which they serve.

    • billhook

Hard when only wealthy, well connected people get guns, as is the case in NYC.

    • i <3 law enforcement

Oh my goodness really its time to take a stand im sorry but … Really! what power do they have only the power that was given to them by the people now lets get something straight there are corrupt people in every society in every work environment but not a whole society you might as well say that every prisoner incarcerated atm were wrongly accused and should be aloud to go free, or another time when police were there for the people sandy hook shooting and if we didn’t have law enforcement way more of these style shootings would go on

    • Charlie

As hesitant as I am to agree with you, I kinda do. Something I’ve noticed is that I can’t take care of a problem on my own property, I have to call the cops. The only reason I have to call them is because I could get arrested for (for example) shooting someone that is trying to pry one of my home’s windows open. If cops didn’t exist that wouldn’t be a problem. However, there are situations where we do need them, just not as they currently are. No force designed to police the citizens of a society needs military hardware, simple as that. I think a common-sense approach involving compromise should be used rather than just getting rid of the police force altogether. Maybe make them more accountable for their actions or equip them all with google glass and any officer caught doing wrong or turning their GG off will be immediately fired, no questions asked.

      • gb

Well the first example you used is rather odd. While I dislike police for many reasons, I have to believe they could handle a robbery better than just shooting the perpetrator. And what if the robber had a severe mental illness or was high on meth or another seriously mind-altering drug? You have to consider that if people were allowed to just shoot willy nilly in self defense it would probably be a lot worse then what the police force do now. I mean look at how the stand your ground laws were used to justify terrible shootings because people felt “threatened.” I agree with the rest of your post though. Police officers should be more highly regulated and kept to a higher standard. Any wrong doing and you should be out, no questions asked.

        • Adolph Schumer

police have responded to robberies and shot old men standing in their garage. You call the cops you’re playing Russian roulette

      • allisnotasitseems

appreciate your perspective, although I would say your answer is based on the idea that the militarized police across our country were established to protect the average person. sure, there are many cops that do a great job, but their systems, over the top weaponry, training, recruiting of psychopaths, internal affairs process, etc are from the guys with the budgets, their masters. I suggest we all explore this topic with that knowledge, i.e. these militarized cops cracking heads of peaceful protesters outside federal reserve member banks are created for a much different reason, one the average amerikan mind is incapable of grasping, a mind not so unlike their german counterparts in ww2, etc. that no matter how bad it got they just turned their mind off. these are difficult subjects, not for the feint of heart

  • Rebelsiege

Without a back story explaining what happened, I can’t tell the difference between a photo or video footage of police brutality vs police defending themselves against violent mobs or taking down a criminal who refuses to cooperate or surrender. If police are depicted beating someone into submission, for all I know that person is a murder suspect who is trying to grab an officer’s gun from its holster. Police do have the authority to arrest thieves, robbers, rapists, killers, arsonists and vandals, and I’m glad of that. If they continue doing that job, they are doing their jobs. If they are beating innocent people who have done nothing wrong, that is police brutality. Learn the difference.

    • billhook

The NYPD has a history of being corrupt and thuggish. Usually, a crowd of people and a horde of photographers taking pictures aren’t present at the scene of an apprehension of violent felons.

      • ayydubb

While that may be true, loads of them are usually looking for any way to get images of police doing something shady, and they frequently go out of their way to deliberately make it happen. Definitely not all the time and not everyone, but it’s very common.

        • Adolph Schumer

Any proof of this allegation? I think the police do enough shady things you don’t have to force them. Why attack the watchers of police crime and not the criminal police?

          • ayydubb

Proof from personal experience. I’ve worked closely with the police for over two years and they run into assholes looking for a good video all the time. I’ve personally seen it done countless times, in a myriad of different ways. They hide cameras in bags or other shit and directly antagonize them, egg them on, etc etc and hope to get something good.

          • dyingempires

why is that you think? hmmm.
very well respected woman worth over $270M where I live mentioned to my wife last week – she wants nothing to do with the police. she nor her wealthy friends trust them. her sentiment shows up in polls dramatically across the populace. no one trusts the govt, no one trusts their militarized police.

        • dyingempires

there are u.s. soldiers guarding the poppy fields in Afghanistan. do you really think the war on anything, drugs included, is about protecting the commoners? there are provocateurs that are cops/feds at most major protests. I really enjoyed one particular one I saw where the provocateur was hoisted over the cop barricade by the cops as he was trying to get away from a very pissed off group that had outted him for creating violence wearing the typical full face mask, etc.. great videos on the web of these types getting caught over and over on the net.

          • ayydubb

yup, there are plenty of videos and bad police officers who have no business being police officers. Probably about 1 for every several thousand good cops, yet idiots like your “well respected woman” still manage to take it and paint the entire police force as corrupt.

If you want to know corrupt police, spend some time in most south american countries. During my several years in the DR and elsewhere i learned very quickly what actual corrupt police are like, and it’s nothing like the police here. People just want a good story and like to feel entitled.

    • Kenny SantaTiger Patterson

who’s authority do they have? the man that they are assaulting? or somebody else who thinks they have the right to do wrong? when your an old man crossing the road you need help if you are endangering yourself not beaten up…… any-man who accepts an order from some higher authority to harm someone obviously has not got a brain to think themselves………

    • Christopher Kirtlink

“Police do have the authority to arrest thieves, robbers, rapists, killers, arsonists and vandals”

Slight correction to this statement. It should read: “ANYONE has the authority to arrest thieves, robbers, rapists, killers, arsonists and vandals”. Putting a badge and uniform on does not give you some magic power to vanquish evil, it just tells people that you are supposed to know the laws better than most, same way that a guy with an electricians belt SHOULD know how to read a wiring diagram. Police used to be there to “serve and protect” the people, now they are there to “get home safe by any means”. So happy they can protect us from women in handcuffs and little old men crossing the street.

      • Statism Sucks

The police have never been about protecting and serving the people.

The police are here to protect and serve the State.

The people are nothing to them, save punching bags and whipping posts.

  • Jeremiah R. Patterson

This piece pulling the girls hair while obviously being escorted away in handcuffs – what do they call that technique in the academy these day’s? Stress relief hair ball procedure? Beats paying off a shrink! Sad.

      • bsbfankaren

And shooting a cop will get you the death penalty in most states.

        • billhook

Then keep shooting as many as possible until you either go out with a higher kill ratio or you and others like you take care of the problem finally through attrition.

        • Adolph Schumer

Jews shooting Nazis would get them the death penalty for sure. We’re all walking around with targets. Some die by cop for talking on a cell phone some while sleeping. All 50 states and the SCOTUS have ruled citizens are allowed to use deadly force to resist an unlawful arrest. Resist!

      • allisnotasitseems

they are. many carry weapons while they campaign for gun registration and confiscation.
interesting the left loves wars and govt crackdowns on ranchers, etc. now that they have their own emperor.

      • billhook

Then why do you guys vote for the nanny state and whatever made you think all the rules and regulations you love could be foisted on others without the use of govt. agents wielding firearms? Or were you expecting an exception for yourselves?

        • JGSRELP

Calling any gun laws “nanny state” is your problem, not anyone’s with common sense. Closing the gun show loophole, having bullets tagged, mandating gun safety courses with every purchase, etc. are not nanny state ideas. They are the very essence of being a responsible gun owner. Anyone saying differently needs their head examined.

Why do you guys always jump to the conclusion that gun restrictions = Banning all firearms?

          • Eric Stevenson

Why is the 2nd amendment the only one that requires a permit?

The gun show loophole is a myth. Purchasing a firearm from a booth at a gun show requires the same background check as a firearm purchased from a traditional brick & mortar store.

A tagged bullet only ties the bullet to the gun it was fired from, not who pulled the trigger.

A responsible gun owner will take firearm safety classes without being forced to by the government.

This recent surge in the advocacy for gun control started after the Sandy Hook school shooting, but NONE of the proposed gun control laws would have prevented what happened there.

You’re ready to sell liberty for the facade of security.

          • Adolph Schumer

Don’t confuse him with truth. Obama says its common sense so the lemmings need to line up.

          • COMALite J

Because the Second Amendment is the only one that easily empowers people to take away the most important Right of Natural Personhood from another Natural Person, namely, the Right to Life. All other Rights depend on that one, since once the Life is gone, the Person is gone, and so are all of his or her Rights. Including the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.

The big problem with the gun debate on both sides is that most are treating it as one problem and arguing about what one solution or set of solutions would cover it. It’s not. A few months after Sandy Hook, there was much talk of how already over a thousand Americans had died by gunfire after Sandy Hook. But that’s a completely different problem.

Sandy Hook, as well as Aurora, Clakamas, Fort Hood, Oikos Academy, Virginia Tech, Columbine, Red Lake, Jonesboro, etc., are all examples of mass shootings. These make the news and shock the nation, but they’re a drop in the bucket.

When we see the USA as having far and away, by multiple orders of magnitude, more firearm homicides per capita than other developed nations, the vast majority of that is from another cause: inner city youth gangs! Those account for roughly 90% if not more of the total gun homicides. Most of those are in just a handful of specific inner cities.

Were we to eliminate those alone, the per capita firearm homicide stats for the USA would drop to below the median of developed nations!

I believe that we should do whatever it takes to reduce all causes of gun homicides as much as feasible, up to and including repealing the Second Amendment (whose original purpose is indeed outdated — more on that some other time), but that that should be an absolute last resort, to be done only if all else fails, and then only if it can be shown that it absolutely would work (our tragic national experiment with Prohibition would imply otherwise).

In the case of youth gangs, step one would be to end the War on Drugs already! This is what fuels most gang violence.

For the mass shootings, look into the known side-effects of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) and other psychotropic pharmaceuticals.

          • Eric Stevenson

Please, enlighten me as to how the original purpose of the 2nd Amendment is outdated?

          • Adolph Schumer

None of those things will do anything to stop criminals only to disarm law-abiding people and inflict dangerous and unproven technology on them or make defense so expensive only the rich could afford it. What about all the bleeding heart BS? You want to tag every bullet so the inner city black family cannot afford to defend themselves? How about giving facts as facts instead of passing off you’re Oprah talking points as facts. Or just have your head examined.

          • allisnotasitseems

260 million people murdered in last 110 years….by govts., many of them this govt directly or by proxy.
Every step of gun “control” is incremental. The idea that the law abiding public should be surveilled, etc. constantly for owning a weapon is chilling at best, and frankly quite naïve for any of us to think it doesn’t eventually lead to dramatically more. The state knows no other way than to increase its reach. History shows us this 100%.
seems the militarized police, having killed more Americans than the number of US soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghan wars over the same years, should be the ones gun “control” laws should apply first.
people will disregard 260 million killed by govts and fixate on useless counterproductive approaches. if any of this was about saving lives we would be talking about big issues like 250k dying each year from heart disease, numerous others diabetes, numerous others from cancer, numerous others from doctor errors, drug interactions, etc.. these are well over 1 million lives each year of mostly preventable deaths, not to mention economic drain, suffering of persons and their families, etc..
we are fools if we think anything about gun control at the govt level has to do with saving lives. that is what people are very sensitive about, not gun safety courses. your comments obscure dramatically the reality of where we are, and have always been in the history of the world.

          • Theadore J Stone

Where do I go for my head examination? … being a responsible gun owner is like having common sense! It is neither common nor does it make much sense!! There is NO gun show loophole, that is the way the law was written and passed by our elected representatives. Gun or weapon restrictions have consistently shown throughout history that the government believes that they are the only people that deserve the right to posses weapons. And many of the countries believe that. i.e. United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Russia, Spain, Italy, Greece.

    Stinking pigs!

  • Jeff

I don’t like hearing Luke R. saying, “I am just doing my job” while trying to avoid being hit by pig batons, as if he should be exempt because he is taping them.

    • DJK

      You’re kidding, right?

      • Jeff

Did it sound like I was kidding? Is he a journalist first, or an American first?

        • DJK

What do you mean, is he a journalist or an American first? Is either of them ok to beat for no cause?

          • DJK

Generally speaking (and by that I mean ALWAYS) when people are not doing anything wrong/illegal, they shouldn’t be beaten by the police. Also not when they’re a journalist trying to photograph what is likely news.

          • justin

dear Jeff, why do you think journalist and american are two different things?… and just to answer your question. being a journalist doesn’t give him the right to protection against police beatings. being an american gives him that right. its the first amendment.

          • Akaliner

I understand Jeff’s point, I am surprised no one else gets it. Luke sounded surprised he was getting beaten with a baton even though his entire agenda is to expose government for abusing power and violating our Constitutional Rights. Of course he was smacked just like everyone else around him because Police Officers make their own rules up as they go and do not respect the rules already in place.

          • Jeff

Grow up DJK and try to make sense. Thank you!

          • DJK

I guess I just don’t understand your question, “Is he a journalist first, or an American first?”… can you elaborate?

        • JGSRELP

Newsflash genius, most American’s get beat up journalists or not if they are caught taping the police. In almost every state in our great union.

Your question is a moot one.

Colluding govt and massive multinational companies, i.e. Mussolini’s definition of fascism, are the reason the Koch Bros and banking cartel families run over the people right now…..of course if you look deeper one will realize these issues of runaway power drunk oligarchs are more the result of the electorate being willing victims in all their various forms. E.g., endlessly blaming a couple of guys and not having any understanding of how things really work.

  • allisnotasitseems

More Americans killed by police than American soldiers in either the Iraq or Afghanistan War over the same years. Would love to see more people cover that, the militarized police and why.

    • allisnotasitseems

heh, that was a very poorly constructed sentence wasn’t it. my apologies.

More Americans have been killed by police on their home soil than American soldiers were killed in combat in either the Iraq or Afghanistan War over the same years. Welcome to the spiral of every rapidly decaying empire.
The Roman Empire went down in a blink after they could no longer pay gold to the mercenaries to fight their wars. copper coins just wont cut it. Gee, do we have any runaway, untenable debt problems here, or in any of the rest of the western oligarchy states?

  • 1KeenObserver2

Brutal police criminality is at an all time high while accountability has been reduced to a low.
We are fortunate that this emerged. As social media’s spotlight shines brightly on misdeeds of criminal thugs wearing uniforms, the public gets to show a new force to fight the sadistic thugs with, and, provide precise details for jury and courts. These clowns will be dealt with whether they ride a motorcycle in a gang and attack a driver or a pedestrian. They shall be held accountable for their unwarranted barbaric treatment of the public. Their images won’t go away any time soon-nor should they. Today’s brutal images will remain more prevalent and insightful than the old images and video of southern police beating demonstrators with batons, dogs, and water cannons. Lets welcome these cave men into the 21st century where “nerd” technology can trump brutality and win in a court. They had better think twice and show restraint or learn the meaning of a “strong public!”
