On the heels of the revelation that the NSA impersonated Facebook to Infect Millions of Computers, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted a message on Facebook that he called President Obama to express how mad he is about NSA Spying.

Here is the message Zuckerberg posted:

“As the world becomes more complex and governments everywhere struggle, trust in the internet is more important today than ever.

The internet is our shared space. It helps us connect. It spreads opportunity. It enables us to learn. It gives us a voice. It makes us stronger and safer together.

To keep the internet strong, we need to keep it secure. That’s why at Facebook we spend a lot of our energy making our services and the whole internet safer and more secure. We encrypt communications, we use secure protocols for traffic, we encourage people to use multiple factors for authentication and we go out of our way to help fix issues we find in other people’s services.

The internet works because most people and companies do the same. We work together to create this secure environment and make our shared space even better for the world.

This is why I’ve been so confused and frustrated by the repeated reports of the behavior of the US government. When our engineers work tirelessly to improve security, we imagine we’re protecting you against criminals, not our own government.
The US government should be the champion for the internet, not a threat. They need to be much more transparent about what they’re doing, or otherwise people will believe the worst.

I’ve called President Obama to express my frustration over the damage the government is creating for all of our future. Unfortunately, it seems like it will take a very long time for true full reform.

So it’s up to us — all of us — to build the internet we want. Together, we can build a space that is greater and a more important part of the world than anything we have today, but is also safe and secure. I’m committed to seeing this happen, and you can count on Facebook to do our part.”

    .
Mark Zuckerberg and his ilk can start by stopping saving data on me.

    • Joe

Or you could, I don’t know, stop using the platforms they provide and giving them the information. It’s not their fault when you opt in. Read the fine print.

        “Read the fine print.”
        .
He said, it’s up to all of us to build the internet we want.
        .
I just told him what i want :)

I guess that’s why Facebook is banning anything about guns being put on it. He talks a good talk about Rights, but only if he has a say in what Rights we can or can not have!

  • Trendy Hipster

Screw you, Zuckerberg. You called your users “dumb F—ers”. Your cover has already been blown. Facebook is funded in part by the NSA. Nice try suckerberg.

    • e-i-e-i-o

Well him didn’t lie there–Facebook users are “dumb F—ers!”

  • Karolyn

And Zuckerberg has called for mass amnesty so he can hire cheap labor as if he can’t afford to pay decent wages and then some. He gives the info away quite freely; this is all just bluster on his part.

  • e-i-e-i-o

Are you serious Zucher–you have contracts with the NSA–what’s this really about–the fact that Facebook is dropping off the face of the earth because of you intrusive system so now you want to show the back side of your face!!!

  • EndCorruptCorporatocracy

Hilarious! F—erberg scolding the NSA is as hypocritically asinine as
would be George H.W. Bush scolding CIA drug traffickers or Bill Clinton
reprimanding Carrol Quigley and the rest of the NWO goons! Really?!
Does this little snot-nosed, TIA / MIC / intel community vulture
capitalist-supported prick think we’re buying this crap?! Wow…. The
NSA, et al. *made* this kid….

  • Jjamerb

    Yours Truly,

    NS…..oops I meant Mark Zukerberg

  • jbo5112

Apparently all the commenters missed the article where the NSA was posing as Facebook so they could infect people’s computers with viruses that scour hard drives and record people with mics & webcams. Not quite the same thing as Facebook’s overly invasive targeted advertisement program and profiling users to attempt to provide only potentially interesting stories.

Nice manifesto I hope he sticks to his guns, of course if everyone cynically turns against him then there’s no chance.

He got it wrong. “Unfortunately, it seems like it will take a very
long time for true full reform.” – is just a dream. The reality is

Unfortunately reform is already taking place too quickly and in the wrong direction: Against privacy, against real security, against freedom, and against the constitution that protects all of those, and which should never have been ignored.

What are the consequences of violating the constitution? What are the limits on punishment for violations of the constitution? None?
